General Summary: University Ministries (UMin) at Seattle Pacific equips students as they prepare for a lifetime of engaging the culture and changing the world. Our aim is holistic formation in students; spiritually, intellectually, and vocationally.
Comprised of the John Perkins Center (JPC), Campus Ministries (CM) and Church and Community Connections, UMin pastors and staff focus collectively on facilitating worship, discipleship, and reconciliation through ministry events, developing student leaders, and pastoral care relationships. More specifically, Campus Ministries staff cultivate our communal worship life, in addition to developing robust spiritual formation opportunities for both residential and off-campus students.
Within this, the Interim Coordinator of Community Life serves to coordinate opportunities for community building and spiritual formation for undergraduate students, partnering with Campus Ministries staff and student leaders to serve undergraduate students through worship and discipleship programming.
This is an interim appointment for the 2022-23 academic year. Evening and weekend availability required on occasion.
Job Duties:
- Coordinate weekly Group worship service: Responsible for the planning and execution of weekly Group worship service in collaboration with UMin pastoral staff, graduate assistant(s), and undergraduate student coordinators. Serve as advisor for Group student leaders.
- Coordinate ministry programming for upperclass & commuter students: Coordinate monthly and quarterly opportunities for connection and spiritual growth. Serve as advisor for Upperclass and Commuter student leadership team.
- UMin/Campus Ministries Staff Responsibilities: As a member of the Campus Ministries department and overall UMin team, participate in regular staff meetings, and support departmental and office programming, including collaborative events and initiatives. Serves on cross-campus committees as assigned, participates in high ceremonies, etc.
- Support Special Campus-Wide Spiritual Formation Initiatives: As appropriate, support the coordination and implementation of campus-wide spiritual formation initiatives for the care and growth of undergraduate students.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Theology or Other Related Field, or commensurate experience as worship pastor. Master's degree in in Music, Worship, Theology, or other related field, a plus.
- 1-2 years experience developing and leading community building and spiritual formation initiatives for diverse groups; experience developing and mentoring young adult leaders both individually and corporately.
- Preferred ministerial experience in a local church or within higher education.
- Must demonstrate a Christian commitment consonant with SPU's Statement of Faith, mission, and values. Familiarity with and affirmation of the Wesleyan tradition, and must also have an appreciation for the broad range of ecumenical Christian traditions, worship experiences and theological perspectives.
- Previous experience with youth or young adult students, with outstanding ability to relate to students individually and corporately of diverse backgrounds.
- Administrative, organizational and budget experience.
- Strength in written and oral communication. Strong self-management and problem-solving skills; competence with multi-tasking and flexibility with multiple projects.
- Strong collaborator between varied stakeholders (students, staff, faculty and external partners).
- Desire to work in a team setting for the spiritual health of student body.
- Flexibility due to variable work hours; ability to work evenings and weekends (typically 1-2 evenings/week, though occasionally extra beyond this).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, etc), Experience/familiarity with Zoom, Google docs, Planning Center Online, YouTube, Instagram, Photobooth/video recording and editing software.
