Position Summary:
Are you passionate about working with electronics and wiring cars Do you have any experience working in a fast-paced shop installing car radios, alarms, and performing body work? If yes, then Mobile Communications America is looking for an Installer for their Salem VA location. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of demonstrating expertise in installing both mobile and fixed wireless radio equipment in compliance with manufacturer and company standards
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate expertise in installing both mobile and fixed wireless radio equipment in compliance with manufacturer and company standards.
- Remove and reinstall original equipment manufacturer (OEM) vehicle interior trim.
- Perform physical tasks involved in modifying vehicles to accept emergency-related equipment, including installing electrical wiring, connecting electrical fittings, drilling holes, soldering, and developing efficient wiring routes.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems as needed.
- Install a diverse range of emergency-related equipment in different types of vehicles, such as sedans, SUVs, commercial trucks, buses, motorcycles, and ATVs.
- Keep tools and work area safe, clean, and organized.
- Continuously learn about new products, skills, and techniques from colleagues and manufacturers.
- Assist with parts, shipping, receiving, and inventory management as required.
- Ensure all necessary paperwork and documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain customer confidentiality and confidence by keeping service information confidential.
Ideal candidate should have the following skills, experience and education:
- Demonstrated eagerness to learn about new technologies in public safety communications and equipment.
- Preferred experience or basic knowledge of automotive wiring concepts.
- Preferred experience or basic knowledge of installing and troubleshooting two-way radios, sirens, warning lights, and other public safety vehicular equipment.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory.
- Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing work schedules.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, work independently, and achieve objectives without supervision.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED (Associate Degree Preferred) and at least 2 years of technical experience, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated reliability and accountability.
- Strong sense of integrity.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Working Conditions
The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will be required to stand, walk, sit, use their hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; extend their hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate effectively through speech or hearing; wear personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to potentially hazardous materials; lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds from the floor and above their head, bend at the waist, and use their near vision to read and use computers. They must also be able to handle semi-frequent stressful conditions (cardiovascular), work frequently in outdoor weather conditions, and occasionally ascend/descend a ladder or operate a motor vehicle. Additionally, they may need to position themselves to maintain computers or other equipment as necessary.
Travel Requirements:
Must have the ability to travel as needed. (Less than 25%) Some overnight travel may be expected.
