Information Systems Engineer is a research faculty position in the Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL), supporting sponsored research in Atlanta, GA. GTRI is looking to grow their team to support ongoing research activities in Huntsville, AL and Atlanta, GA. This position will support client and server Information Technology (IT) infrastructure in Atlanta, GA while working with other computer support representative (CSR) team members.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this job is to lead the technical design and support of our end-user computing environment. Responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of the End-user computing environment, including but not limited to windows, mac, and Linux workstation provisioning, deployment, and maintenance; leveraging configuration management tools to effectively manage a fleet of heterogeneous systems; compliance auditing, vulnerability and patch remediation; Work closely with leadership, stakeholders, and Project/Process Management to effectively translate business strategy and objectives into technological capability. This position will interact, advice and counsel on a regular basis with staff, third party vendors, and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- End-User IT Device(s) life-cycle management (provisioning, deploying, patching, maintaining, backups, security, networking).
- Conduct IT and security assurance systems research and integrate technologies into complex electronic systems.
- Design and maintain Information Technology (IT) systems to support various sponsored research projects.
- Implement and maintain client and server software used to support project management and software development.
- Cross Domain Data Exchange and Systems Integration.
- Is a primary implementor of Infrastructure as Code for configuration management solutions.
- Virtual machine management.
- Validates security control configuration on systems, ensure all systems are configured to necessary controls, such as STIGS, CMMC, and other similar requirements.
- Actively collaborates with customers and external teams, derives tasks from detailed requirements. Provides tasking to other team members, based off of derived tasks.
- Provides software and merge request code reviews. Acts as the primary gatekeeper for infrastructure as code merges.
Additional Responsibilities
- Mentoring student employees and providing tasking for tier 1 IT support.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with maintaining Apple or Linux systems in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with developing scripts using languages such as Bash, PowerShell, VBScript, and/or Python.
- Experience with troubleshooting hardware and software issues on computer workstations and servers.
- Experience with Transition Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP), IP configuration, peer-to-peer networking, and IP addressing and subnetting.
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory (AD), Microsoft Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Domain Name System (DNS), and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance.
- DoD 8570 certification.

- 5 years of related experience with a Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Security, Information Systems, or Information Technology.
- 3 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Security, Information Systems, or Information Technology.
- 0 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Security, Information Systems, or Information Technology.
Clearance Type Required
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
