Job Title: Infant & Toddler Classroom Aide
Reports to: Classroom Head Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Classroom Aide at the Greater Waterbury YMCA assists the Head Teacher in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the children's intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development within a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. To establish good relationships with the parents and other staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 16 years of age.
- Attending High School or possessing a high school diploma.
- Within 90 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, medication administration, EPI pen, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Knowledgeable in Infant & Toddler development.
- Interacts with Infants and Toddlers during the basic routines of eating, playing, dressing, and napping to build language, nurture self-awareness, and expand understanding of the world.
- Create a nurturing and caring environment for Infants & Toddlers, including creating age-appropriate activities to enhance Infant & Toddler milestone growth.
- Assumes responsibility for the health and safety of all children in the program.
- Assist staff in carrying out daily center activities, field trips, and special events.
- Assist with clerical work and set up and clean up of the room.
- Assist with all outdoor activities as needed.
- Assist in preparing for projects, reading stories, and any other duties as assigned.
- Attend staff orientation, meetings, and trainings as assigned.
- Participate in weekly swim lessons with the children. Must get in the water with the children.
- Be a positive role model.
- Be a team player and work cooperatively with other staff
- Responsible to follow all policies and procedures regarding abuse and neglect mandated reporting.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

- Physical activities of this position may include: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Such activities may take place between 50 – 90% of the time during regular duties.
- Medium work demand; exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- Required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of assigned tasks.
- Subject to environmental conditions; protection form weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Moderate exposure to infections.
