Organizational Relationship orLine of Authority: Directly responsible to the Principal in matters related to the Building and the Superintendent of Schools and/or his/her designees.Statement of Duties and Responsibilities: Provides educational support and instruction to students at the Gateway Academy including woodworking, carpentry, welding and other Vocational Training. Responsibilities: Teach students correct use and safety of shop equipmentUnderstanding working, drawing, designing and building furnitureAble to plan class assignments and projects for all classesTeaching team work to successfully complete projects in a timely mannerResponsible for inventory of all shop supplies and itemsResponsible for submitting supply requisitions for items needed during the budget yearMaintaining the upkeep and safety of the shopAssigning projects to students and keeping up with their work projects for grade creditsResponsible for instructional and general duties as indicated by the Principal of the Gateway Academy, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designees, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.oTo provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate for each student assigned to that classroom.oDemonstrate knowledge of the content area(s) and approved curriculum.oDifferentiate instructional methods and resources in each area taught.oRecognize student diversity and create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept.oDemonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change.oCommunicate accurately and effectively in the content area and maintain a professional rapport with students.oComprehend the principles of student growth, development and learning, and apply them appropriately.oObtain feedback from and communicate with students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.oUtilize a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught.Use appropriate techniques, strategies, and materials to achieve the desired instructional goal. Understand and apply learning theories.oEncourage the development of student involvement, responsibility, and critical thinking skills.oManage classroom to ensure the best use of instructional time. Develop and implement appropriate classroom management strategies while maintaining high expectations for student behavior.oCreate an atmosphere conducive to learning, self-discipline, and development of realistic and positive self-concepts. Encourage cooperation among students.oMaintain accurate and complete records as required by the school district, and report progress or lack thereof to parents in a timely manner.oTake precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.oWork productively with administration, colleagues, parents, and community.oPrepare for instruction and show written evidence of preparation.oUse current technology for instruction and management.Qualifications: Possess necessary approvals to teach Industrial Arts as prescribed by The Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, as put forth by Chapter 74, as amended by Chapter 731 and The Education Reform Act of 1993 Holds a professional license in Carpentry by the MA Division of Professional Licensure.
