The ideal candidate has the necessary experience required and desires to help further the mission and vision of the San Diego Rescue Mission. The successful candidate will manage a variety of tasks such as facilitating all aspects of recruitment and retention as well as helping strengthen employee engagement. This role requires the candidate to be outgoing and solutions focused, be task oriented, and have a high level of computer and software literacy. The individual must be able to work independently focusing on efficiency. The ideal candidate will represent our Mission, Vision and Values and continue to grow both professionally and spiritually while building team harmony. Applicants must be able to drive within 1 hour of headquarters downtown to our Oceanside and National City locations when needed.
Recruitment and Retention
- With the HR Director, recruits and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Prepares recruitment materials and posts jobs appropriately to various sites: boards, newspapers, colleges and social media. Works closely with our social media and marketing assistant to prepare for the monthly posting and highlights of key open positions.
- Coordinates onboarding for new employees including new hire paperwork.
- Develops and updates job descriptions and job specifications, assisting in the redefining of the job description templates.
- Tracks positions across departments to assist with financial forecasting
Training and Resources
- Researches content and prepares monthly Supervisor Trainings in coordination with HR Director.
Performance Management
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Administers annual employee development plans.
Engagement and Culture
- Works closely with the HR Director in coordinating staff events, monthly team meetings, and other engagement opportunities.
- Responsible for employee updates and communication, establishing creative and effective ways to communicate with staff.
- Assists with implementing employee morale traditions including Employee of the Month and brainstorms new ideas to support employee culture.
- Conducts semi-annual employee engagement surveys.

Skills / Requirements
Education and Experience:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Psychology or related field required.
- 3+ years' experience working in the HR field required.
- Experience working at a nonprofit organization preferred
