Job description
Daily Routine of the in Woods Operations
- You should be on the job site every morning no later than 6:00AM. That includes stopping for breakfast, ice, and taking traffic into account.
- Your machine fluids need to be checked EVERYDAY. NO EXCEPTIONS. This includes Motor Oil, Coolant, Hydraulic oil, and Transmission Oil.
- Hard Hats and Reflective Vests should be worn at all times when outside of your machine. This includes Operators and Drivers. Your first offense will be a verbal warning, your second offense will be the revoking of your quarterly safety bonus, your third offense will be a reprimand. It is important to us that you make it home to your family safe every night.
- All machines (with exception of the loader which should be filled every other day) should be filled with fuel every afternoon before leaving the woods. Even if you filled your machine up at noon, your expected to fill the machine again at the end of the day. This prevents condensation in the tank and you will never have a shortage of fuel.
- When filling your machine with fuel, the labor truck needs to be running to provide the correct current to the fuel pumps. Also remove the fuel caps on the truck to prevent a vacuum on the tank which will result in the pumps burning up. When you are finished filling your machine make sure you place the caps back on the tank (The Tractor and Labor Truck) and roll the fuel hose up neatly on the truck.
- Turn your machines master battery switch off every afternoon. This saves battery life and alternator life.
- The labor truck should be filled with On and Off-road fuel and hydraulic oil every evening, not in the morning. The labor truck should also be stocked everyday with supplies needed for the next day including, motor oil, bar oil, anti-freeze, gear-oil, bars, chains, and spare saw teeth. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- If you are logging round wood, the delimber needs to be filled with bar and chain oil every afternoon.
- If you are chipping, the chipper needs to be blown off every afternoon. This includes the fuel and hydraulic tanks, the motor, around the turbos and hydraulic motors.
- Shut the chipper off when moving it from one ramp to the other. This prevents trash in the fuel tank from being circulated and stopping up the fuel filters.
- Your machine should be greased twice a week. You grease it once and Jacob will grease it a second time on his weekly trip. If Jacob does not make it on a particular week, you are responsible for the second greasing.
- All fuel, ice, and parts receipts need to be signed, labeled and turned in every day.
- Do not leave trash on the ground in the woods. Do not put trash in the back of the chipper, the mills don’t want any contaminates in the waste fuel.
- Clean your machine out every afternoon. This includes you throwing away your trash and sweeping the dirt out of the machine.
- If you have to add hydraulic oil to your machine, it’s because there is a leak on it not because the oil is just disappearing. Try and determine where the leak is coming from and if you can’t let us know, we can have one of our mechanics come and take a look at it.
- Do NOT continue to run the machine if your low hydraulic light comes on. Stop the machine immediately. Getting one more load will not amount to the cost of replacing the hydraulic system on the machine.
How your time should be filled out
- If you drive a labor truck, your time starts when you get in the labor truck in the mornings and stops when you park in the evenings.
- If you ride to work in the labor truck, your time starts when you get in the truck in the morning and stops when you leave the job site in the evening.
- The Crew Foreman should sign off on the timecards every week to ensure that everyone else’s time is being filled out properly.
Your job includes more tasks than just operating a piece of equipment. This list was made to breakdown and explain every detail of what is expected of you from day to day. Failure to follow these rules will result first in a verbal warning, any offense after that will result in a reprimand. Upon receiving your third reprimand you will be terminated.
