The HIM Specialist helps organize and secure the confidential management and handling of all paper and/or electronic member records to ensure compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security requirements. Adheres to all LIFEPlan and Departmental policies and procedures to ensure that proper consents/record releases are in place when processing requests for access to member records including internal and external document requests.

Key Duties and Responsibilities as the HIM Specialist:

  • Attention to detail
  • Complies with requirements of HIPAA, NYS OPWDD, NYS DOH and/or other accreditation entities with oversight authority for Health Information Management in a CCO/HH environment.
  • Assists with Release of Information as needed
  • Assists in the monitoring and implementation of policies and procedures for the Health Information Management Department and related administrative functions for continuous quality improvement processes
  • Provides day to day document management as it relates to Medical Records including compiling, scanning, indexing, and filing of member records, as well as document retention and destruction protocols.
  • Assists in planning, organizing, and executing the activities of the department
  • Ensures records paper and electronic are processed in a timely manner
  • Provides assistance to Program, QA and Compliance staff in the gathering of information related to audits and/or document reviews
  • Organized and able to meet deadlines
  • Manages and implements projects assigned by the Health Information Director

Qualifications:
Education:

  • High school diploma /equivalency
  • AAS / certification preferred in related field

Experience:

  • 2 years of related experience preferred.
