A. General Statement:
The assistant center director is responsible for the on-site supervision of direct-service staff, engaging with families, and children. The assistant center director has a clear understanding of all the systems within the center and supports or oversees their successful functioning. The assistant center director reports to the center director.
B. Essential Functions:
Supervision
·Supervise center staff through staff meetings, promoting positive team development and community culture. Meet with staff individually on a monthly basis and as needed in order to provide on-going professional feedback and follow-up. Ensure on-going case management as needed. Develop personal professional development plans with staff.
·Evaluate staff through periodic observations of home visits, classrooms, family outings, and parent meetings, as well as periodic review of records, home visit plans, family outing plans and classroom plans to ensure staff are preforming assigned duties and responsibilities.
·Assist in recruiting staff candidates and coordinating hiring committees. Complete hiring packet. Orient new staff.
·Complete required, 6 month and annual performance assessments
Oversight
·Assist the center director with Head Start content area requirements, childcare licensing requirements, and Capstone Head Start policies are followed in conjunction with content area managers and Head Start consultants.
·Assist in the maintenance of a complete and up-to-date enrollment file in the database for each child enrolled
·Assist in ensuring the written policy requiring the licensee, staff, and auxiliary staff to report suspected child abuse or neglect to the Department of Children and Families as specified in rule 3.3.2 of VT licensing regulations is followed. Administration
·Assist in overseeing administrative functions in local office(s). Review and verify contents of monthly reporting packets and ensure that they are delivered on due dates.
·Be available to lead tours to community partners, board members, funders, and prospective families.
·Assist in ensuring full enrollment in assigned areas. Monitor transitioning children within the programs and into the program. Ensure that applications are complete and enrollment selections are scheduled as needed. Review monthly enrollment tracking and daily classroom attendance.
·Assist in collaboration(s) with the local supervisory union(s) and early childhood teams and advisory boards as appropriate.
·Participate and collaborate in Head Start committee work as appropriate to support program continuous improvement.
C. OtherDuties:
· Other duties as assigned
· Attend monthly supervision meetings with the center director.
· Promote Head Start and Capstone positively and proactively in the community and at meetings and initiatives.
D. Qualifications (at minimum):
·Strong knowledge base in early childhood
·Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or equivalent
·5 years working in an early education center program
· Familiarity with and commitment to Head Start philosophy and goals.
· Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
· Excellent leadership and communication skills.
· Ability to establish open, supportive relationships and communication with staff and families
·Willingness to pursue professional development related to program goals, objectives and needs.
