Position Summary
Reporting to the Technical Director, the MLS NEXT Pro Head Coach will be charged with leading the development of players and coaches. The Head Coach will arrange, conduct, and supervise the Team’s practices, training camps, training sessions, and matches. This includes technical and tactical aspects for developing high quality players and individuals in-season and off-season, in line with the overall Club philosophy and goals.

- The Head Coach will serve as a mentor and leader for coaches and players in the club
- Serve as an ambassador on behalf of Atlanta United FC in the US soccer community
- Coach the MLS NEXT Pro Team in all exhibition, regular season, playoff, tournament, international and other matches
- Prepare the MLS NEXT Pro Team for matches by developing match strategies and supervising the scouting of opposing teams
- Integrate the Club philosophy, playing style, tactics, and techniques into the Team by conducting training sessions that align with Club goals (achieving targeted GPS benchmarks, etc.)
- Assist in recruitment, tryouts, selection, training, evaluation and retention of elite players in the Academy as needed
- Enforce Team Rules and League Rules applicable to the MLS NEXT Pro Team’s players and/or coaching staff
- Participate in promotional, sponsorship, and public relations activities as requested upon reasonable notice including, but not limited to, ticket, game, MLS NEXT Pro Team and Mercedes-Benz Stadium promotions, clinics, speeches, interviews, photo sessions, public appearances, sponsor activities, and participating in television, radio, and internet programs
- Partner with Club Technical Staff to evaluate and recruit players to the MLS NEXT Pro and Academy teams, and otherwise promote and assist with the development of the USL and Academy teams
- Other duties and services as assigned by Club
Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience in MLS, USL, international club or Academy
- Demonstrates ability to teach techniques, tactics, physical and psychological components of soccer
- Proven track record of developing soccer professionals
- Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate and educate players and coaching staff
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong organizational and personal management skills
- Ability to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Knowledge of professional sports team’s environment, team operations, public relations, and media responsibilities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. Must be a team builder and team player. Must have the ability to relate professionally to all levels of staff, management, players, etc
- Solid character and will represent the Atlanta United brand properly
- Ability to manage a team of coaches
- “Sleeves rolled-up” attitude. Be prepared to be involved in a range of activities to help establish Atlanta United 2 in their new location
- “Big picture thinker” that understands & appreciates the role of a MLS NEXT Pro Team in the Club’s overall player development process, that is also open minded to execute Club’s desired philosophy, techniques, and tactics
Required skills, experience & abilities
- USSF A License or UEFA equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a sporting environment with 2 years in a professional soccer environment
- Soccer playing experience preferred
- Demonstrate professionalism with both internal and external audiences
- Ability to clip film and create film cut-ups
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, including strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to evolving job environment
