RCG is a professional property management company seeking a maintenance worker / handyman to provide after hour / on-call response maintenance/handyman services to our Greater Boston properties. The properties are in Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, and Waltham. We also have properties in Beverley, Chelsea, Lynn, Salem, Danvers, East Boston, Winthrop, and North Andover.

We need to find someone that can provide after-hour on-call coverage (could be weekly or every other week) as part of our on-call rotation. The typical on-call schedule is 6pm-6am. There are some holidays that extend the on-call hours in certain weeks.

Providing on-call coverage means that the candidate will be available and capable of responding to emergency issues that come up at our properties when our office is closed on nights, weekends, and holidays. We expect that candidates will be capable of responding to emergencies within fifteen minutes of being dispatched by the On-Call Manager.

On-call work is varied and typically requires the candidate to be capable of diagnosing and reporting issues to the on-call manager and handling things like containing leaks, shutting down or, if possible, repairing plumbing, or otherwise doing things to make things safe until a permanent repair can be made.

Experience working for a property management company or working for an apartment or condominium community is a plus.

Must Haves:

- The ability to diagnose or repair maintenance issues and propose solution options to management.

- A reliable vehicle capable of hauling materials, ladders, and driving in winter weather (preferably AWD or 4WD. No rear wheel drive vehicles).

- Willing to work in occupied apartments, some of which have pets.

- Polite and capable of communicating effectively with customers and staff members and provide a detailed description of the work performed to the maintenance administrator daily (preferably using a maintenance app on a smart phone).

- Have the tools necessary to perform the tasks described above efficiently. That will typically include the following:

Basic power tools: Hammer drill/drill/driver, Circular saw, Reciprocating saw,
Jig saw, and Cut-off tool/hand grinder

Basic hand tools: Screwdriver set, Allen wrench set, Pliers set, pipe wrenches/channel lock, Vise grip set, Socket set, Metal snips set, Hand saws/Hack saws/Drywall saw, Utility knife

The candidate will need to pass a thorough background check. As part of the background check, we will require the candidate to demonstrate his/her ability to perform some or all of the above mentioned ‘Must Haves’ by working as a temporary employee on a trial basis until the skills and fit are established as determined by RCG. That typically takes about two-four weeks assuming there are enough work order opportunities during that period and depending on the candidate's availability.

The candidate will be paid $33.00/hour - $37.50/hour. The pay shall be commensurate with experience and performance during the background check. Candidates will be paid for reasonable travel time to and from properties when working on-call. Candidates shall also be eligible for mileage reimbursement for the same. In addition, we pay $100/week (or $14.28/day) for being available to respond to emergency issues after-hours and then the hourly rate for work performed including a reasonable commuting time. We also pay $40/month for reimbursement of use of a personal smart phone capable of using the Yardi Maintenance app (available via Apple and Google stores) and sending/receiving texts/emails/photos over a cellular network.
