The Montgomery County Department of Parks, Horticulture Forestry & Environmental Education Division is currently seeking seasonal applicants to fill a Seasonal Groundskeeper/ Caretaker position located at Brookside Nature Center. This position is responsible for the general upkeep of the Nature Center to ensure park patrons can safely and positively take advantage and enjoy all the Nature Center offerings. The ideal candidate is passionate about public service and understands the benefits that nature has on public health. We seek an energetic person with initiative, an outstanding work ethic, and a desire to work as part of a team dedicated to preserving and beautifying the Park system.

This position pays at a rate of $15.05/hour - $19.50/hour depending on experience and qualifications.
This position is scheduled for 20 hours/week. Hours are flexible but majority of hours will be during the weekend with some weekday coverage.
- Operates various hand tools, weed trimmers, carpentry tools, power washer, and push mowers to maintain the grounds of the nature center.
- Performs repairs on and around Nature Center site including, campfire pits, fences, picnic tables, auditorium tables, and other facility equipment.
- Performs daily maintenance of facility both indoors and outdoors including but not limited to keeping walkways clear of debris and natural elements (snow, leaves, etc.), watering plants, mulching, and gardening.
- Maintains and organizes tools and equipment ensuring everything is easily locatable and in working condition. Communicates with managers of any concerns and/or needs of supplies for facility operations and its equipment.
- Assists Park Naturalists with ad hoc projects and programs.
- Performs custodial cleaning in main Nature Center building, staff annex, and other nature center small out buildings.
- Must have a valid driver’s license. May be required to drive Commission vehicles upon completion of Defensive Driving training.
- Preferred candidates possess a High School diploma or GED.
Working Conditions:
This is an active outdoor job which requires indoor and outdoor manual labor.
Employee works in inclement weather and may be exposed to dirt, waste, odors, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.).
The position does not provide benefits.- A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
