Grounds Maintenance Assistant (Seasonal)

About the Position

The Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Grounds Maintenance Assistant (Seasonal).

Key responsibilities:

• Performs routine and nonroutine grounds maintenance work as directed.

• Assists other grounds maintenance staff in performing grounds maintenance activities.

• Installs, repairs, and replaces playground or other anchored grounds items.

• Operates light grounds maintenance equipment.

• Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of grounds maintenance tools, machinery, and equipment.

• Performs routine fence repairs.

• Assists other shops in their operation: may accept and perform routine carpentry, structural, cleaning and other work as directed.

• Some high school education necessary to perform basic reading and mathematical operations.

• Three to five years of experience in grounds maintenance work.

• Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record (required).

NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.
