Assistant Principal

Grants Pass School District No. 7 seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Assistant Principal at Grants Pass High School. This Assistant Principal position will be primarily responsible for student discipline, attendance oversight, staff evaluation, as well as other administrative duties to be assigned. A focus on instructional leadership is a bonus.
Credential: Current Oregon Administrative Certificate
Personal Qualifications: Candidates should possess outstanding qualities of leadership, strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative leadership style, and be a team player with demonstrated ability to work with fellow administrators, staff, students, and parents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Supervises students in all school-related activities; e.g., transportation to and from school, in classrooms and cafeteria and school sponsored activities.
- Assist the principal in conducting performance evaluations of all certified and classified employees in the building. Use the information to improve instruction and student achievement.
- Assist teachers, principal, and parents in promoting positive student behavior and discipline by handling students referred to the office for disciplinary reasons.
- Oversee the attendance system for the school and contact parents regarding discipline and attendance matters.
- Keeps records of disciplinary actions taken.
- Assist the principal in supervising the implementation of the curriculum. Be knowledgeable of the District curriculum, evaluate its effectiveness through appropriate assessment strategies, and assist the principal in implementing the changes necessary to improve student achievement.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and staff to promote quality instruction and a healthy school climate.
- Communicate and collaborate with students, parents, teachers, staff, community, and when appropriate, other agencies to promote an open and participatory school environment.
- Promote student activities to foster a healthy and productive learning environment.
- Advise the student governing body, administer and coordinate all student elections.
- Assist the principal in planning, coordinating and control of all student body fund raising activities.
- Work with the local authorities to assist as needed; e.g., police department and probation authorities.
- Be knowledgeable of the building’s philosophy and establish effective human relationships among students, parents, and teachers, such that results in positive school climate and quality instruction.
- Assist in publishing and distribution of a building newsletter to parents at least seven (7) times a year.
- Keep the principal informed of current developments as they may relate to the high school activities.
- Assist in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of the activities program personnel.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining a school master calendar of all scheduled building events and activities of the school. Provide leadership in developing the schedule for the activities program.
- Understand student rights and responsibilities and due process procedures.
- Perform such other tasks as assigned by the Board and/or Principal.
Contract Year and Salary: This position is an eleven month work year from August 1 through June 30 with a salary range of $98,861-$116,850 (commensurate with experience), as well as a comprehensive benefit package.
