The City of Irvine seeks a hard-working, enthusiastic candidate to perform technical and para-professional geographic information systems (GIS) tasks for planning, engineering, and administrative functions. This is a great opportunity for a GIS professional who enjoys a fast-paced and collaborative workplace.

This position has the ability to work a hybrid telecommuting schedule.

Your Impact
  • Operate and maintain GIS databases. Collect, analyze and reconcile geographic data. Interpret information from recorded maps, land grants, deeds, and other source documents.
  • Manipulate database and map layers to produce customized reports, maps, exhibits, and other geographic data for a variety of planning and land use administration purposes.
  • Review and verify digital files and databases for accuracy and compliance with established formats.
  • Maintain and update building footprints and street addresses in GIS database. Produce internal check plots as well as final quality hard copy plots.
  • Participate in street naming and addressing process to ensure approved street names and addresses are computer friendly and to reduce confusion during emergency responses.
  • Check new development plans for compliance with City regulations and GIS database compatibility.
  • Assist in training GIS users. Provide assistance and respond to inquiries.
  • Participate in special projects regarding GIS system and land information applications.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or Civil Engineering, and three years of para-professional GIS or civil engineering, or any combination of education and experience that provides the equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Retirement
The City offers the CalPERS 2% at 62 formula for new CalPERS members.; OR 2% at 55 formula for existing CalPERS members with less than a six-month break in service from another CalPERS or CalPERS reciprocal agency. The City currently offers medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage for employees and their dependents. In addition, the City provides life insurance and a disability plan for employees.

Leave Time
80 to 160 hours of annual vacation accrual, depending on years of service; 11 paid holidays per year; 96 hours of sick leave per year; and 80 hours of annual personal leave. City employees currently work a 36/44 hour work week schedule.
