POSITION TITLE: General Maintenance Worker

DEPARTMENT: Facilities

REPORTS TO: Facilities Supervisor

JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.

BASIC FUNCTION: In cooperation with and under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, assists in the successful operation of the Facilities department at Grand River Hospital District (GRHD).

Performs maintenance tasks which ensure the safe, reliable, efficient and secure condition of all building, supporting equipment and grounds of GRHD. Maintenance and repairs may include plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing, electrical, or vehicle preventative maintenance. In performing tasks and duties, abides by the requirements of the Planned Maintenance Program, safety program, and GRHD policies and procedures. Performs routine maintenance duties and work orders as necessary to provide safe, comfortable, sanitary and pleasant environments for all patients, residents, staff and visitors of GRHD. Assists HVAC Technician in operation and maintenance of HVAC equipment.

To ensure a continual state of readiness, assists in the maintenance and operation of all plant equipment including: boilers, chillers, clinical air pumps, clinical vacuum pumps, clinical gases, liquid oxygen systems and auxiliary gear common to hospitals. Scheduling requirements include rotating on-call coverage. Responds to emergencies including but not limited to operation of the emergency electric generators, fire alarm control, HVAC operations, etc. Consistently practices safe working habits and follows all regulatory and hospital standards and policies.

Applies knowledge of operating principles in electricity, plumbing, hydraulics, mechanics, drive belts, drive chains, fire alarm systems, and blue print reading and interpretation. At times, works in coordination with contracted laborers. Operates a company vehicle at times. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience: Must have at least 2 years’ experience. Experience with electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical repairs and basic HVAC systems is preferred; as well as experience in servicing and conducting preventive maintenance tasks. Work experience involving steam boilers is preferred. Controls background with building automation systems experience desired, along with basic computer skills. Valid Driver’s License and clean DMV record required. May be required to cross train in other disciplines among facilities team.

SALARY INFORMATION :

$16.00 - $20.00 hourly (dependent on experience)

Shift differentials may apply for eligible positions.
