POSITION TITLE: General Aide (6:45 AM – 3:30 PM M-TH, 6:45 AM – 2:15 PM F)
REPORTS TO: Elementary Principal
LOCATION: Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf

JOB
DESCRIPTION: This is an non-exempt, full-time, 10-month, 187-day position. Responsibilities include as a
floating classroom aide for bathroom needs, academic support, etc., works with teachers to
support classroom management, develop student skills and provide instructional support
during a wide variety of activities and subjects across varying student ability and group
sizes, supervises students during classroom times and unstructured times such as recess,
meal times, bus pickup/drop-off as well as during assemblies, transitions, evacuations, and
for short periods during teacher absences, provides basic personal, first aid, hygiene care
to students as trained, documents student injuries and infractions, attend meetings and
trainings as needed.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of an Associate’s degree with general training or experience working with deaf
children is preferable. This individual must be familiar with the needs of deaf children.
Certification of PA Mandated Reporter Training, PA Criminal Background, PA Child Abuse,
FBI Clearance, Act 82 are required.
The Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) for this position is “Advanced.” The
minimum level accepted at hire is “Intermediate.”
