Full-time Phlebotomy Instructor, Grant-funded

Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for one full-time, grant-funded position of Instructor in Phlebotomy under the Medical Laboratory Technology program within the Business, Health Sciences and Homeland Security division. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2023.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, the successful applicant will serve as instructor in the Medical Laboratory Technology program. As an instructor, the individual will teach Phlebotomy courses in both the traditional and computerized environment and will assist the program coordinator with program operations, accreditation standards as applicable, and the clinical education component of the program. As faculty, the individual will be responsible for the continued development, implementation, and overall effectiveness of the educational courses/curriculum with Medical Laboratory Technology faculty and evaluation of student performance. The individual will collaborate with Medical Laboratory Technology faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in each of the programs. Opportunities exist for participation in professional development activities and service on departmental, divisional, and/or college-wide committees. This is a full-time, nine-month teaching position dependent upon continued grant funding.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Certificate in phlebotomy required. Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology preferred.
2. Current certification to practice as a Phlebotomist in the State of Illinois (or the ability to obtain such a license prior to the start of official employment) is required.
3. Three (3) years professional experience minimum in a variety of medical settings.
4. Must meet and continue to maintain professional standards established by the program’s accrediting agencies, including National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, as applicable.
5. Prior teaching experience in an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Technology program is preferred.
6. Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.
7. Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers, applicable software, and Internet is required.
8. Ability to meet, successfully complete and maintain minimum health requirements, drug and/or reference checks required by the college, program accreditation and/or clinical facilities prior to and throughout employment.
9. Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction establish by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.
10. A valid driver’s license is required.
SALARY:
This is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule. For example, the minimum 2022-2023 starting salary at Step 1 on the below Master’s Degree column is $48,491. Voluntary overload teaching assignments may increase the annual compensation up to 30-40%. The College offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.
WORK LOCATION:
Phlebotomy instructional responsibilities through the Medical Laboratory Technology program at the East St. Louis/Granite City campus with district-wide instructional/clinical responsibilities. Driving may be required to reach off-campus sites, visit clinical facilities throughout the region, and to attend professional functions within the state of Illinois.
