Job Description:
This position serves as a technical focal point dealing with a variety of field assignments ranging from: troubleshooting, commissioning projects, service and maintenance inspections, equipment removal and installation of Solar Turbines’ range of turbo-machinery products (Gas Turbines, Compressor Sets, Generator sets) used predominately in the Oil & Gas and Power Generation industries.
Principal Accountabilities
- Must be able to proactively recognize electrical/mechanical abnormalities, and potential safety problems and take appropriate action to prevent a serious safety hazard from developing and causing damage to equipment.
- Advise Solar and customers on issues related to warranty, logistics, engineering, project management, parts inventory, technical training, and Maintenance Management systems.
- Ensure accurate communications and reporting between immediate Solar management and customer representatives. Submit accurate work activity reports and non-routine reports, if necessary.
- Will demonstrate the ability to use sound technical judgment for the troubleshooting of complex technical problems.
- Will be capable of using advanced troubleshooting techniques to ensure that the root cause of problems is identified.
- Work individually or with assigned Field Service Rep’s on the preventive/corrective maintenance.
- Will be required to assist in a technical manner with the operations and maintenance crew in any area if the workload exceeds the number of personnel available.
- Demonstrate capability for a multi-disciplined approach to rotating equipment and associated balance of plant, maintenance, repair, commissioning and troubleshooting and be capable of working in a diverse team environment.
- Utilize the Work Force Management Process and system to manage work orders. This includes performing pre-work by reviewing and updating site safety information, managing employee information, and availability. The WFM application will also be used to record and report time, manage software and drawing changes, generate daily reports, review hardship data, and manage the task library.
- Ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded. Ensure all maintenance and commissioning activities are carried out in accordance with Solar Engineering specifications, recommendations, and best practices. Provide feedback on problems encountered and how they were resolved.
- Will be aware of procedures for identifying sources of information and technical advice but will be capable of independent reasoning and judgment.
- Maintain sufficient up-to-date product knowledge to allow repair and adjustment of mechanical, electrical, electronic and control components/process systems.
- Be capable of reading and using applicable drawings, ladder logic diagrams and technical manuals. Liaise with OEM’s and outside resources on resolving problems.
Minimum Qualifications
- The incumbent will have served a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent period of training.
- FSR II will possess a technical qualification e.g. Degree, HNC/ HND, ONC, C&G, Airframes and Powerplants (A&P) license, license, Marine Engineers Certificate and OR will have 3–5 years experience in a related industry.
- Higher experience/skill levels may balance lower academic qualifications, and vice versa.
- Experience in an overseas/offshore environment is essential, also familiarity with rotating equipment and PLC systems.
- This experience may be either Mechanical or Instrument/ Electrical and the FSR will be capable of a cross-disciplined approach to the job.
- The FSR will be familiar with Gas Turbine theory and operational practice including control system logic, driven equipment and processes both upstream and downstream.
- The FSR will have the ability to program and basic troubleshooting on PLC systems.
- Where regionally required, the FSR will hold and maintain an offshore medical and survival certificate and/or other training/certifications as needed.
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Experience using power equipment, bench tools, hand tools, and inspection equipment.
- Experience following documented instructions including engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Be able to travel 75% of the time.
- Clean Driving Record (this includes no moving violations within the last 12 months, no "2 point" violations within the last 3 years, and no DUI's within the last 7 years).
- Candidate must successfully complete physical exam and obtain OGUK (offshore) certification by Solar-approved physician.
- Be able obtain a legal Transportation Worker's Identification Credential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior military service preferred, but not required.
- Experience in an overseas/offshore environment.
- 5-7 years of experience working with turbomachinery.
• Experience with PLC Logic control systems. • Technical qualification e.g. Degree, HNC/ HND, ONC, C&G, Aviation Engineer’s license, Marine Engineers Certificate.
- Ability to work within a team or independently.
