Pay Range $18-$21.63

Job Summary:

The Community Economic and Empowerment Services (CEES) Family Advocate is responsible for providing wraparound support services to families impacted by domestic violence, human trafficking/exploitation, or sexual violence. The Family Advocate utilizes trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive practices to provide advocacy to the entire family unit as well as to individual family members. The Family Advocate arranges and participates in group facilitation, organized activities/field trips, intakes, goal planning, and referrals to community providers. This position is also responsible for maintaining a welcoming, safe, clean, accessible, and inclusive environment for persons and families we serve.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or human service-related field or;
  • At least 3 years of experience in the social service settings and 3 years of experience providing staff supervision

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct intake session with every youth and parent/caregiver to assess strengths, goals, and needs and then implement appropriate services or make referrals for external resources.
  • Provide consistent and regular contact with parents/caregivers and families through one-on-one sessions, community visits, family sessions, and support groups.
  • Coach parents/caregivers on basic parenting techniques with age-appropriate expectations, childcare, and health related referrals, in a compassionate manner
  • Assist and advocate, as requested, with community organizations, schools, or human services systems in order to coordinate care.
  • Complete safety plan with parents of infants, children, and youth, as well as with the children and youth as appropriate.
  • Schedule and advise childcare specialists, volunteers, and interns as needed.
  • Work with parents/caregivers to create an educational plan and ensure school enrollment/attendance. Update and maintain pre-school, elementary, middle, and high school information and resources.
  • Establish relationships with community homeless school liaisons with an emphasis in south suburban Hennepin County, Minneapolis, and St. Paul school district

Hours/Schedule: This full-time position has a flexible schedule, based on participant and program needs, with occasional night or weekend hours required. This position may require flexibility or schedule adjustments.
