POSITION SUMMARY

This position under direction of the Facilities Manager is responsible for performing and documenting efficient operation and maintenance of all Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) facilities and grounds, and ensuring effective, economical, and safe delivery of facilities services. The position requires interface between internal customers and external contractors/vendors.


This position makes routine choices within established procedures, notifying the Facilities Manager when unusual cases arise. Focuses on appropriate tasks throughout the shift; takes responsibilities for actions both as an individual and on behalf of the organization; follows all policies and procedures; maintains confidentiality; is prepared and punctual to all scheduled shifts. Uses good judgment to solve difficult problems in a timely manner. Performs duties with strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.


This position monitors quality, quantity, and proficiency of work performed by contractors, service providers, and vendors in ensuring that all work meets the highest quality and safety standards.

M-F 2:30pm - 11:00pm


JOB DUTIES OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Independently provides a wide range of building and property maintenance services as needed, including diagnosing and performing minor equipment repairs at over 20 facilities (transit stations, park & rides, and maintenance/storage garages) and numerous bus stops/shelters throughout MVTA’s service area (cities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Lakeville, Prior Lake, Rosemount, Savage, and Shakopee, and the counties of Dakota and Scott).
  • Performs and documents light to medium repairs and maintenance to systems including, but not limited to: electrical and mechanical; HVAC; lighting controls; security system/building access; fire and security system monitoring; facilities security patrol; diesel generator mechanics; underground fuel storage and delivery system; plumbing; locks; painting; cleaning; lawn maintenance, landscaping and irrigation; sweeping and snowplowing.
  • Repairs plumbing, doors, locks, prepares and paints surfaces, repairs windows, replaces light bulbs, replaces switches, frames and finishes interior walls.
  • Landscaping maintenance of lawns and gardens, mows grass, trims edge of lawns, picks up litter and trash, tends to plants, shrubs, and trees, pulls weeds, washes exterior windows, maintains irrigation system.
  • Repairs, arranges and assembles modular furniture and equipment.
  • Sets up and tears down chairs and tables for special meetings or events.
  • Remove snow and ice from steps and walks if snowfall totals don’t require contractor response or as required to maintain facilities in a safe manner. Applies deicing chemicals.
  • Performs variety of janitorial services as required to maintain facilities.
  • Follows a scheduled maintenance routine, checking mechanical equipment for proper operation and performing lubrication or adjustments as necessary.
  • Conducts facilities checks and inspections per schedule or as directed to assure facilities are maintained, kept in good repair, visually attractive, safe and clean working order. Monitoring equipment and condition to ensure that the building’s systems perform efficiently and safely.
  • Coordinates supply and material restocking with Facilities Manager to maintain proper levels of supplies and materials needs at facilities. Performs work in compliance with all applicable OSHA, fire/life safety, and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Ensures facility safety and security standards upheld; evaluates facility operations and equipment; adheres to agency policies and local, State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs routine maintenance activities to maintain the facilities in safe and clean working order.
  • Ensures the safe use and proper disposal of all materials, supplies or chemicals.
  • In the absence of the Facilities Manager interfaces with cleaning crew/contractor, grounds crew/contractor, snow removal service, and other contractors or related employees assigned to assist in the maintenance of all MVTA facilities and grounds.
  • Monitors quality, quantity, and proficiency of work performed by contractors, service providers, and vendors in ensuring that all work meets the highest quality and safety standards.
  • May need to assist with projects and with covering extended work hours.
  • Assist as directed by management with events on MVTA property and/or involving MVTA participation (i.e., arrange onsite traffic control, security, and signage, barricade parking lot, special events, etc.).
  • Makes recommendations to Facilities Manager regarding equipment and repair needs to assure equipment is maintained in a cost-effective manner that will maximize its usable lifespan.
  • Performs or assists with installation of facility and bus stop signage, bus shelters and related components.
  • Performs other duties as needed/assigned.
