Facilities Maintenance

Use your skills to make a difference with visitors at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates -- one of the most-visited historic home sites in the country and a key historic and cultural landmark in southwest Florida. A National Register Historic Site open to the public since 1947, the site contains more than twenty acres of historic buildings and gardens, including the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, their botanical laboratory, and a 15,000 square foot museum.

Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance position is responsible for skilled maintenance, construction, repair of any facility at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. Experience with historic structures and museums preferred.

Schedule/Hours

The Estates is open 7 days a week year-round with evening hours during the holidays and other special events throughout the year. Regular public daytime hours are 9 AM - 5:30 PM. This is a full-time non-exempt position with benefits. Five-day work week with occasional additional hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Construction/repair
• Wood Carpentry
• Cabinetry
• Electrical Repair
• Painting
• Pool Maintenance
• General Maintenance (changing light bulbs, air-conditioning filters, etc.)
• Repair pumps and motors
• Operate equipment including power saws, chain saws, power tools, generators, pumps, small electrical tools, etc
• Maintain and file monthly safety reports on fire extinguisher, air conditioner, emergency light, etc.
• Set up, work and tear down special events on a rotating basis.
• Other tasks as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• Physically fit and able to work outside in adverse conditions
• Experience in landscape maintenance
• Able to follow verbal or written instructions
• Demonstrated experience in a work environment that requires flexibility and teamwork
• Valid Drivers License

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Contact with internal and external customers, vendors, outside agencies and the general public.
• Regularly exposed to a variety of weather conditions including adverse weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions.
• Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, climb a ladder
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock.
• May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays and emergency conditions – storms, etc. Overtime, with prior approval from Facilities Director or Supervisor, may occasionally be required.
• Ability to drive and operate company vehicles, golf carts, tractors, etc.
