Role Overview

The Environmental Intern position is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day compliance activities. This role will focus on setting up a permitting management system to organize deadlines, requirements, renewals, and other various permit compliance items essential to project operations. Flexibility and open communication are necessary, as priorities and procedures may change frequently. The Environmental Intern will work primarily with the Manager, Sustainability and Environmental Engineering, and Legal Counsel.

The position will report to the Manager, Sustainability and Environmental Engineering and will work closely with the Environmental Manager. The role will be based in Reno, Nevada with frequent travel to Winnemucca, Nevada, and the project site, as necessary. Presence at the Lithium Nevada office in Reno or Winnemucca will be expected primarily, but some assignments may be performed remotely.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Environmental team to collect field data needed for permit applications.
  • Work with the Environmental team on various tasks related to the Thacker Pass Project.
  • Review and analyze current approved permits for the Thacker Pass Project for an in-depth understanding of permit compliance requirements.
  • Assist with acquiring and maintenance of monitoring equipment.
  • Assist with current permit applications for permitting to various state and local entities.
  • Assist with the collection and tracking of information relating to ESG programs. Assist with maintenance of records required for environmental compliance.
  • Assist with creation and implementation of a comprehensive Environmental Management Plan (EMP) addressing all environmental elements and aspects of the project.
  • Assist with creation of permit compliance monitoring system.
  • Data entry, preparation of applications and reports.
  • Willingness and flexibility to complete other tasks as assigned.

Knowledge/Education

  • Currently enrolled in environmental program or related discipline, at the collegiate level, required.

Physical and Mental Demands and Requirements:

The Environmental Intern must be able to:

  • Periodically work in environmental extremes (i.e., hot or cold weather).
  • Possession of a valid driver s license
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Walk on uneven ground.
  • Lift and carry up to 35 lbs. in weight.

Work Schedule and Duration of Assignment:

The incumbent works a 40 hour/week schedule, primarily from Monday through Friday. The role is planned as a summer internship with a duration of approximately ten weeks.
