Position Summary:
The Saugus YMCA is seeking a certified Group Exercise Instructor or Personal Trainer who would be interested in being trained as an EnhanceFitness® Instructor. EnhanceFitness® is an evidence-based group program for older adults that uses simple, easy-to-learn movements that motivate individuals to stay active throughout their life. This program is catered toward those with arthritis, but anyone is welcome to participate. This position is primarily responsible for educating, instructing, and training members in safe and correct principles of health and fitness by following the plan provided to you by EnhanceFitness®.
Salary Range: $25.00 to $40.00 (USD) Hourly
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Engage in active listening with members to build relationships, understand individuals’ goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
2. Teach members the principles and correct techniques of strength training including equipment and free weights.
3. Consult with members about physical fitness and related topics
4. Provide supervision and encouragement during training sessions
Requirements for Instructors:

Able to commit to instructing for a minimum of 1 year from the start of a program session
- Ability to teach Monday, Wednesday, and Friday preferred

Must be flexible to coach in multiple branch locations in Metro-North Association if needed

Skilled in listening / motivational interviewing/ coaching

Ability to guide program participants to meet goals

Able and willing to follow curriculum with fidelity

Strong data tracking and communication skills (must report back to healthy living regularly)

Able to promote and grow the program within the branch

Relationship-building skills

Strong feeling of empathy for others

Emotional Maturity
Education and Experience:
- Must be knowledgeable of anatomy, physiology, and basic exercise principles
- Must hold a personal training certification or Group Exercise Instructor certification
- Must possess excellent communication and human relations skills.
- Ability to work as an integral member of the team
- Must hold a current active CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 3 months of hire (Training provided if needed)
- Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date. (Training provided)
