Conducts laboratory and production research and development of chemicals and their associated systems, including binder,
adhesives, loosefill fluids, oils, batch, and glass. Designs and implements laboratory equipment to increase chemical research
and development capabilities. Leads and implements chemical changes in the production facilities. Provides production
facilities with chemical support. Identifies opportunities and implements solutions to improve safety, performance, and/or cost of
chemical systems in the production facilities
Responsibilities:

• Ensures safe usage of chemicals and glass raw materials in the laboratories and production facilities.
• Develops and implements safety procedures to be employed by workers operating equipment or working in close

proximity to on-going chemical reactions or chemical systems.

• Evaluates chemical equipment and processes, and identifies opportunities that reduce safety hazards, optimize

performance, reduce cost, or ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

• Leads audits and implements best practices of chemical systems across the production facilities.
• Conducts laboratory chemical and glass experiments.
• Leads production facility trials and implementation of chemical and glass changes.
• Develops work instructions and provides training to production facility personnel on chemical systems.
• Designs, builds, and implements laboratory equipment to increase in-house chemical testing capabilities.
• Develops, tests, and validates test methods for chemical testing equipment in the laboratory and production facilities.
• Supports the development of chemical solutions to problems faced by both internal and external customers.
• Analyzes data, prepares summaries, offers recommendations, and implements solutions.
• Fosters a culture on continuous improvement by adopting and following the KI CI framework

Qualifications: Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering

Experience:

• Minimum of two (2) years’ manufacturing process experience is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to work in a safety-conscious manner and ensure all safety regulations are followed at all times
• Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances
• Knowledge of chemical processes
• Knowledge of statistical analysis (e.g. Minitab)
• Knowledge of process improvement techniques (e.g. Six Sigma)
• Knowledge of design software
• Knowledge of experimentation in a laboratory environment
• Knowledge of experimentation in a production environment
• Ability to work independently under limited supervision when completing most tasks
• Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
• Ability to conduct research and provide new ideas and solutions that will impact the organization on a large scale
• Ability to think creatively in solving problems and developing new systems
• Ability to analyze data, provide conclusions, and offer recommendations
• Ability to communicate effectively throughout the department and across the organization
• Ability to provide support to other areas of the organization when necessary
• Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time
• Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outloo
