Johnson Electric (JE) is excited to announce that we are now recruiting for Application Engineer for our Plymouth, MI location. This position handles key technical point of contact with customer engineering. Works to define customer QFD and communicates with the design engineering team in China to determine the best engineering solution. Focuses on Seating Applications (i.e. Seating adjust Motors, Haptic Motors, Power Lift Gate, using PMDC and Brushless Motors). Understanding product trends and anticipate customer needs and wants. Provides a daily point of contact with the customer engineering for questions regarding product usage, test methodologies, temperature simulation, acceptable tolerancing, etc. Depending on the scale of the project, will act as local project manager to ensure customer key deliverables and timing are clearly communicated to the global team.

In addition, this position will be primarily focus on the Seating and Latching Applications in the BM segment of the business.

Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Key technical contact with customer engineering and daily point of contact for technical information concerning JE products and development.
  • Defining and understanding customer QFD and specifications (written and unwritten). Communicating these requirements clearly and concisely with internal teams. Key for new customers and new applications that this be done well.
  • Becomes an application expert in Seating and Latching applications areas so that customer needs can be anticipated.
  • Local project management support and communication with customer for primarily for small projects.
  • Travel to manufacturing sites to assist with key customer visits (audits, engineering reviews, PPAP's, etc.). Generally, this is limited to key customers and key project launches.
  • Performs tolerance stack ups and rudimentary engineering calculations using accepted formulas as directed by engineer.
  • Contribute to the release for production of the products to be launched in the plant, checking drawing standards, and documentation completeness. Fixture preparation and/or layouts for product development.
  • Recommends design tools to improve design efficiency and productivity.
  • Change management process from engineering side.

Our Requirements:

  • B.A. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline
  • 3+ Years Relatable Experience. Preferably in Automotive PMDC motor environments

Would Be Advantageous:
  • Experience with PMDC motors and their application
  • Solid technical engineering knowledge of PMDC motors
  • Automotive product development (APQP)
  • Component manufacturing knowledge (plastic injection, stampings, powdered metal, castings)
  • Flexible and able to communicate well with teams in multiple regions
  • Experience with Solid works
