Job description
The Baltimore Sun seeks a strong multimedia journalist/engagement specialist who’s a visual storyteller with a passion for engaging audiences across multiple platforms. Shooting and producing visuals for The Sun's website, print newspaper and external platforms such as social media, you understand the importance of amplifying The Sun’s journalism with photo and video and building relationships with readers.
This person works closely with other journalists during the daily news cycle while balancing longer-term projects. This journalist responds to news and assignments with a sense of urgency and feels comfortable moving between breaking news and feature stories —and challenging the conventions of what a story is. You should be comfortable taking the lead in visual content creation, photography and/or video work, or pitching in to expand on the work and ideas of others. We’ll also be looking to you to actively embrace experimentation on all platforms and stay abreast of trends in social media.
Other duties include helping run social media accounts, responding to user feedback, and tracking analytics to make decisions on initiatives.

- Create visual and engaging multimedia content, including photos and video, for a
variety of platforms.
- Work closely with newsroom teams to increase and build relationships with The
Sun’s audience.

- Assist with the daily programming of The Sun’s main social media accounts, with
the shared responsibility to grow, enhance, and leverage our presence on these
platforms.
- Create and edit content in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Serve as a project manager on long-term digital initiatives, working at times with
sales and marketing, developers and reporting teams.
- Newsroom experience is preferred.
Qualifications
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced breaking news environment. Understanding of journalistic standards and ethics.
- Understanding of design fundamentals including composition, color, typography, UX.
- Proficiency with Adobe suite including Photoshop, Premiere and InDesign.

- Proven track record of creating original content, including photos and video.
- 1-2 years of experience. Willingness to adapt to new technologies is a
