Job description
The Paramedic assists with basic patient care based on individual patient needs within his/her scope of practice under direct supervision of the registered nurse. This position maintains effective working relationships with all customers including patients/families, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors. Job duties and responsibilities include:
- Greeting customers upon arrival, notifies the ED registered nurse, and registers the patient.
- Takes, documents and reports vital signs, reporting abnormal results immediately to the registered nurse.
- Receives and carries out instructions accurately and promptly.
- Transports patients as necessary. Assists with moving, ambulating and lifting patients.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.
- Maintains and prepares room and assists with preparation of equipment for procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Required Skills:
- High school graduate
- Current EMT or Paramedic certification or Certified Nursing Assistant with 1-2 years ER experience.
- Completion of a basic arrhythmia course.
- BCLS required
- Knowledge of TDH, Medicare, Emergency Preparedness and JCAHO rules & regulations.
- Ability to utilize Electronic Health Care Record for patient documentation.
