Summary: The primary functions of the school behavior specialist is to provide support for the SST and 504 process in conjunction with the Special Education Director and to support behavior needs for students in conjunction with the Vice Principal and School Counselor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
All or some of the following tasks may be required. Other duties may be assigned.
- Make him/herself available to students in need of services.
- Advocate on behalf of the student and/or his/her family. Take all necessary
and reasonable precautions to protect students.
- Facilitate outreach efforts to provide services to students, parents/guardians and staff.
- Connect students, parents/guardians and staff with specialized referral agencies.
- Consults with teacher, staff and parents in problem-solving situations to meet the developmental needs of students.
- Maintains accurate student records and regularly informs students and parents about the student’s progress.
- Understand, evaluate, and interpret academic performance data. Interpret information about students to the student, their parents/guardians, and staff.
- Implement individual and group skill building sessions appropriate to the behavioral needs of the student(s).
- Participate in the SST and 504 process and facilitate the collection of data, meetings, parent conferences, and other required processes.
- Participate in in-service activities promoted by the district.
- Submit required reports promptly and accurately.
- Comply with all Board Policies, administrative regulations and district procedures, as well as all state, federal and local laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Building Principal or District Administrator.
Qualifications:
- Current Oregon Counseling License with appropriate endorsements OR Current Oregon Teaching License with Special Education Endorsement.
- Knowledgeable in the field of normal child growth and development.
- Experience in a variety of educational settings.
- Must have exceptional personal integrity, maturity, collaborative skills and personal interest in working with students, staff, parents and the community

This position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level of the environment is moderate to loud. Work is predominately inside and generally provides protection from the weather but not necessarily from temperature changes. Some outside duties are required. Occasionally required to ascend or descend stairs or similar uneven surfaces. May be exposed to communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens.
Reports To:
The Behavior Specialist will report to the building Principal.
Terms of Employment:
Salary and work year as determined by the administration and in accordance with Board policy, individual work agreements and the collective bargaining agreement.
