Job description
The Early Head Start Caregiver Aide assists in creating and managing an attractive, warm and challenging learning environment for infants and toddlers; incorporating appropriate early intervention, learning and care activities that meet the needs of the group,the individual children and families. The Caregiver Aide assumes the responsibility for continuing pre-planned classroom activities in the absence of the Teacher/Caregiver.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to the following;
- Adhere to Head Start Performance Standards, Child Care Licensing, NAEYC/and STARS standards.
- Assist in implementing Early Head Start/Early Head Start-Child Care curriculum and Early Head Start Performance Standards for EHS/EHS-CC classrooms.
- Provide input into preparation of appropriate daily lesson plans that include indoor and outdoor activities, including multicultural educational materials and activities, family-style meals and other elements as appropriate.
- Assist in organizing the classroom according to development levels and individual needs of the infant and toddler. Ensuring opportunities for development in all capacities.
- Assist the Teacher/Caregiver with training parents and volunteers in planning and implementing approved activities.
- Assist with preparing meals and snacks according to age, development and needs.
- Maintain and assist in maintaining accurate attendance records, food reports, in-kind reports and other record keeping as required. Assist other staff as requested.
- Continue professional growth by attending training programs, workshops, in-service training.
- Substitute as needed.
- Recruit on behalf of Early Head Start following procedures in place; posting flyers, signs and applications in the community.
Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED. Obtain required certifications; CDA (Child Development Associate) First Aide/CPR. Annual health screenings. Must have the ability to read, speak and write proficiency. Possess an understanding of the needs of low-income families and appreciation of parents. Maintain regular attendance.
