Curtis Lumber in Queensbury is currently looking for Driver Assistant!

Curtis Lumber Driver Assistant will help our CDL Drivers execute local lumber deliveries to customer homes and job sites. They must be able to lift 50-80lbs regularly, and will be in charge of helping the CDL Drivers to safely load and unload building material products. Forklift experience is recommended but not required. Pay is dependent on experience.

Summary:

Responsible for assisting with the transportation of building material products to branch yards, existing homes, and/or construction job sites in a safe, accurate and timely manner. Strong emphasis on excellent customer service and customer satisfaction. Use proper material handling practices to load, secure and unload material for delivery.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Acknowledge, greet and assist customers in a timely and professional manner
• Identify the needs and provide the appropriate level of assistance to the customer
• Effectively research and resolve customer complaints and conflicts
• Be respectful of customer’s property

Sales Skills

• Understand the marketplace
• Know product features

• Report potential new jobsites

Delivery

• Verify the accuracy of the load to be delivered
• Properly strap and secure load
• Obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures
• Follow guidelines for load placement at job sites
• Ensure that each delivery is done accurately, safely and in a timely manner
• Communicate to management jobsite problems and or complaints
• Work efficiently to minimize truck turn time in the yard

Truck Maintenance

• Inspect and maintain truck supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, tires, lights, and brakes, to ensure that trucks are in proper working condition
• Report any mechanical problems encountered with the trucks and associated equipment
• Maintain a neat and clean vehicle

Staging Loads

• Stage loads effectively for delivery
• Choose product of appropriate quality
• Stage Safely
• Stage Quickly
• Stage Accurately
• Load and secure material on delivery truck

Material Handling and Equipment Usage

• Exercise principles of material handling and equipment usage to protect company assets
• Safe and proper use of equipment

Performance Expectations

• Do It Right the First Time - Strive to eliminate errors, prioritize work accuracy, seek opportunities to improve efficiencies
• Must have excellent attitude and customer service skills
• Must be able to interact and communicate with supervisors, coworkers and customers in a positive and professional manner
