Engagement Overview:

The purpose of this engagement is to assist the Florida Department of Children and Families with managing and adminstering DSNAP for those affected by Hurricane Ian. The candidate will perform outreach and engage with the community by providing information and guidance to the public about obtaining food assistance.

This position is a temporary position with a schedule of Monday-Sunday approximately 8am-5pm, on-site in Orange County and Polk County.

Job Description:

Conduct research and assessments to determine the community's needs, thoroughly plan events and programs, participate in hiring staff and volunteers, and liaise with sponsors and suppliers. Within scope of position, represents the entire disaster cycle of preparedness, response and recovery.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant experience in volunteer services or disaster relief
  • Ability to coordinate staff and volunteer activities.
  • Ability to interpret program trends, results, and related data to formulate recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong skills in planning and problem solving.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education or experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience with social services or service/program delivery
  • At least 1 year of supervisory/leadership experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with intake of reemployment assistance applications
  • Support case management / review for reemployment assistance applications
  • Coordinate one-stop center approach to guide disaster survivors to the various programs DEO and other state agencies manage (e.g., LIHWAP, LIHEAP, EBL)
  • Assist employers requesting assistance with job postings for temporary and long-term workers
  • Identify disaster survivors who are interested in temporary jobs through the national dislocated worker grant
  • Provide community outreach services to help ensure the impacted communities see DEO and state presence in the time of most need
  • Provide security services for DRCs
  • Provide situational reports to meet the needs of DEO to brief on site activities and community impact

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of working extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, if and when the position requires it.
  • Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
  • Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying, and moving objects that can weigh up to 50 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day.
  • Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented, and with good reasoning skills.
  • Must have finger dexterity for holding objects, typing, etc.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
