GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position maintains overall clinical and administrative management of Respiratory care/Cardiopulmonary and Sleep Lab functions including finances, rate setting, operational and capital budgeting, short and long range planning, staff and project development, customer support and services and new business development for all medical centers Respiratory care/Cardiopulmonary services and Sleep Labs. Maintains and improves profitability through revenue enhancement and expense reduction. Works closely with the physicians and staff at all medical centers in setting department policies and procedures, measuring quality assurance and monitoring regulatory standards. Promotes teamwork and communication between staff, management and physicians while maintaining high patient care standards and customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(30%)* Develops and implements long range strategic plans, annual operational budgets and supply and capital acquisition plan for Respiratory care/Cardiopulmonary and Sleep Labs for all four medical centers. Approves all expenditures, within established limits, including appropriate documentation. Coordinates review of inventory and equipment including replacement or purchase of new, if warranted. Maintains a financially viable service. Analyzes and reports and explains any variances for all areas of Respiratory Care, Cardiopulmonary Services and Sleep Labs.

(20%)* Develops proposals for new services or changes in current services, which include financial, market and operational plans.

(20%)* Develops supervisors/managers.

(30%)* Oversees employee development through recruiting, interviewing, hiring, promotion and discipline as needed. Oversees employee education and is responsible to ensure employees meet required certifications and licensure as required by their job description. Evaluates and counsels employee’s relative to performance, conduct, attendance and compliance to department/medical center policies.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrates and establishes medical center and department policies and procedures.

Monitors regulatory standards for Respiratory Care/Cardiopulmonary Care and Sleep Lab.

Maintains Joint Commission, AARC, and MDPH standards and accreditation.

Promotes the development, analysis, and implementation of the performance improvement process.

Accountable for the facilitation of a uniform demonstration of all aspects/functions of Respiratory Care/Cardiopulmonary Care and Sleep Labs at all four medical centers and outreach programs.

Serves as liaison and facilitates final problem resolution in regards to interaction between patients, referring physicians, staff, and other departments throughout MyMichigan Health.

Participates on medical center(s)/system teams and /or committees as needed.

All other duties as assigned.


CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES:

Reg Respiratory Therapist Required Equivalent Experience –


REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with completion of an Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Care required.

A master’s degree in a related health science degree is required when hired or within 3-5 years of hire into this position.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

Three (3) years clinical experience in the field and five (5) years management experience in a medical center or similar setting required.

Leadership skills needed to effectively direct a group.

Written and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Knowledge of basic techniques in financial analysis.
