There is no better time than now to join the VHA. We are looking for a bright, talented and resourceful individual with exceptional clinical and communication skills to function as the Director for Mental Health in the New York Harbor Healthcare System (NYHHS).

VA York Harbor Healthcare System is a Level 1A tertiary care healthcare organization comprised of three campuses: two acute care medical centers and one Long Term Care Facility. VANYYHS provides health care to New York City veteran population in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island and is the VA referral center for the full range of cardiovascular and neurosurgical specialties. Performance measures show excellent results.

The Director of Mental Health in Patient Services reports to the Chief Nurse Executive and directly supervises 17 FTE Mental Health and Medical Professionals and is responsible for 250 FTE who oversee a large portfolio of Programs:

• Acute Inpatient Mental Health and Substance Abuse Units
• Mental Health Outpatient and Mental Health Based Primary Care
• PTSD
• Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program
• ORTP
• MHICM
• Creative Arts and Therapy
• Domiciliary and PPRTP
• Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

Responsibilities:

The Director for Mental Health is responsible for supervising both inpatient and outpatient clinical areas at all three of our campus

The Director for Mental Health is accountable for the management and supervision of patient care programs for adult and geriatric patients within the Patient-Centered Care Model in the NY HHCS.

The Director for Mental Health develops and implements an organizational vision that integrates key organizational and program goals, priorities, values, and other factors.

Responsible for assessing and adjusting to changing situations, implementing innovative solutions to make organizational improvements, ranging from incremental improvements to major shifts in direction or approach, as appropriate the MCLM balances change and continuity; continually striving to improve service and program performance; while creating a work environment that encourages creative thinking, collaboration, and transparency; and the maintenance of program focus.

Qualifications:

• Must be a citizen of the United States
• Current, active, full and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse
• Graduate of a program accredited by the ACEN -Accreditation Commission for Education (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE
• Master’s degree in Nursing or in a related field required with a BSN or Doctoral Degree in Nursing Practice highly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience with at least 3 years progressive leadership and supervisory experience required.
• Demonstrated competence in Mental Health Nursing
• Demonstrated leadership in interdisciplinary team setting
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all members of the health care team

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $129,379.00 - $172,070.00 per year
