The Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Marquette University School of Dentistry will develop and implement the organization’s diversity and inclusion initiatives and strategies to attract, hire and support a diverse community.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop opportunities for internal audiences of the dental school to understand the role of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as an embedded part of school’s culture and curriculum. This will include input on hiring policies and practices and the coordination of training, presentations, and professional development.
2. Work in collaboration with the Director of Admissions and the Admissions staff with the identification and selection of underrepresented applicants for formal interviews and admission to the program.
3. Collaborate with the Office of Student Success to coordinate and monitor services that support student academic success.
4. Maintain and increase knowledge that will provide support to staff and faculty around diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices in the field.
5. Advise and guide students in non-academic affairs. This includes acclimating to the rigor and climate of the school and assisting them in their pursuit of knowledge and leadership in local and national level organizations.
6. Lead, guide, and assess all functions associated with the Dental Summer Enrichment Program (DSEP).
7. Deliver timely briefs and reports on activities that support strategic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives of the school and the educational impact of that diversity programming.
8. Research opportunities and actively write for grants at the local, state, and federal level that will support recruitment and retention of underrepresented students.
9. Network and serve as a representative of the school on diversity related matters to other offices and departments on campus.
10. Contribute to larger institutional initiatives to provide information and metrics on how the dental school recognizes and allocates resources to community engaged activities.
11. Collaborate with alumni interested in outreach activities to statewide underserved youth to establish and enhance dental education opportunities.
12. In collaboration with the Office of Admissions, create and implement strategies targeted at the cultivation and recruitment of students from underrepresented backgrounds.
13. Serve as member on the Admissions Committee.
14. Manage and allocate budget associated with Diversity and Inclusion office.
15. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master’s degree required, preferably in higher education administration or student development.
Five years of experience with diversity programming, multicultural programs, and/or disadvantaged populations.
Demonstrated success implementing diversity initiatives and understanding of the implications of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Demonstrated success in grant applications.
Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills, oral and written.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills in all domains.
Demonstrated ability to motivate a wide variety of stakeholders to work toward and achieve a common goal; strong interpersonal and consensus-building skills; ability to build trust and credibility.
Ability to assess needs and develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
Organizational and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with others on program design and implementation required.
Possess the cultural competency to facilitate conversations with diverse audiences in a variety of settings.
Experience in managing dispute resolution processes.
Ability to travel as needed.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A terminal degree in a relevant field is preferred. Candidates with a deep working knowledge of issues and trends in diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially as they relate to higher education, are encouraged to apply.
Experience in grants management is highly desirable.
Five years of experience managing staff and student employees.
