Position: Director of Alumni Relations and Community Outreach | Full-Time position
Department: Institutional Advancement
Reports To: Vice President of Institutional Advancement
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties of the Director include the following, but are not limited to:
Alumni Relations Activities
- Serve as the College’s Alumni Relations/Annual Giving Officer.
- Coordinate with Schools’ various alumni groups.
- Plan and implement the College’s homecoming activities, reunions, alumni cultivation/stewardship, and special events.
- Coordinate College’s social media outreach to alumni, friends, and other donors.
- Work with Directors to schedule visits with alumni and donors.
- Other alumni relations duties as assigned by the Vice President.
Annual Giving and Major Donor Activities
- Identify and nurture volunteer leadership.
- Donor cultivation and stewardship.
- Prospect identification for annual gifts.
- Cultivation and solicitation of gifts of all levels to the College.
- Work with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement on fundraising programs and follow through to completion.
- Work to increase giving levels from existing donors.
- Coordinate College’s direct mail and tele-fund program including outreach to alumni, Friends, and other donors.
- Ensure that the messages conveyed through all giving initiatives accurately reflect the mission, vision, and priorities of the College.
- Participate in the activities of friends and alumni groups in support of Louisburg College.
- Coordinate with schools’ alumni organizations in support of alumni/donor relations and Internship cultivation.
- Other general fundraising activities as assigned by the Vice President.
- Regular weekend and evening work is required.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
As Director of Alumni Relations and Community Outreach, the applicant must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, as well as to manage volunteers. This position requires the ability to function in a complex organizational environment that demands flexibility, patience, and focus. The applicant must have the ability to solicit gifts independently and with the assistance of volunteers, directors, chairs, and faculty; use sound judgment in sensitive, confidential situations; work with high-level volunteers and key faculty and staff to identify, cultivate, and solicit donors; articulate the goals and mission of the College to multiple constituencies; and be a creative thinker and self-starter.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree is in Public Relations, Management or Marketing or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience in alumni relations, volunteer management, or a customer-facing role.
- Demonstrated sales or fundraising experience and the ability to articulate the importance of unrestricted support.
- Exceptional ability to be adaptable, diplomatic, and have a sense of humor.
- An understanding and working knowledge of social media.
- Ability to establish goals, structures, and processes necessary to implement a mission and strategic vision.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to represent the College and its role in the community to a diverse pool of constituents.
- Excellent oral/written communication, presentation, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally and work on evenings or weekends as necessary.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills including professional creativity, enthusiasm, and being highly motivated.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, TRAINING, EDUCATION:
- Knowledge of best practices in alumni relations and alumni board and volunteer management.
- Knowledge of Louisburg College.
- Professional experience overseeing information systems, prospect research, donor relations/stewardship, and a donor database.
- Experience writing grant proposals.
