Carisma Therapeutics is seeking a Director of Alliance Management to develop, manage, strengthen and nurture existing strategic alliances and partnerships; as well as forge new business alliances and collaborations as they may arise. Working closely with colleagues across the organization the Director will draw on strong business and operational savvy, superior project management, and excellent facilitation skills to collaborate with both external partners and internal cross-functional teams to ensure activities are coordinated, communication flows, core competencies maximized and resources leveraged in alignment with strategic priorities, program goals and agreements. They will need to develop a broad technical understanding of the company's research and discovery activities and an excellent overall understanding of the research goals of the company. The Director will be an integral part of a small team, where each member is expected to take responsibility for their actions, work collaboratively and be an ambassador for the company in front of leadership, vendors, potential partners and others.

Reporting to the Chief Business Officer the chosen candidate must be self-motivated, organized, and detail focused. This position is based in Philadelphia, PA with the option to be remote.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee day-to-day alliance management including key activities, timing and responsibilities to ensure successful collaboration with academic, biotech and pharmaceutical partners
  • Oversee and support collaboration governance and operating norms (e.g. communication, decision-making, charters and best practices) including forming, managing and supporting joint committees and project teams
  • Develop an intimate understanding of existing partnership agreements, carefully monitor commitments to ensure desired outcomes are achieved, value is realized and/or enhanced and provide an overall analysis and alliance programs
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues as needed and raise issues to appropriate management for timely resolution while maintaining collaborative working relationships
  • Coordinate with internal business partners (e.g. finance, communications, legal, corporate development) to facilitate proactive partnership management and ensure strong alignment and coordination of key business activities
  • Work with the R&D organization and finance to plan and track budgets
  • Proactively track, monitor, and communicate contractual obligations and deliverables to ensure responsibilities met in accordance with terms of collaboration
  • Implement processes and tools to track the status of agreements and licensing obligations (diligence, financial, etc)
  • Provide support for business development activities, including outreach to new technology partners, attendance at conferences and events, and external communications
  • Manage due diligence processes with potential biotech/ pharma partners and investors
  • Complete detailed business & competitive analysis on key players in the cell therapy industry as well as a comprehensive market analysis
  • Research, compile and integrate competitive business information within the industry, including a list of new potential partners
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in life sciences, business or other relevant discipline. Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or related industry. Experience in cell or gene therapy preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years in an alliance management or business development role working with academic and industry partners
  • Excellent business acumen with demonstrated ability to develop solutions that support corporate and alliance objectives
  • A proactive and strategic thinker, with strong facilitation, problem-solving and issue resolution skills
  • Strong analytical and scientific mind set to effectively evaluate business opportunities Strong influencing, diplomacy and negotiation skills and able to work at peer-level with scientific, medical and business experts
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
