Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Information Technologies and Collections Services, the Digital Collections Infrastructure Developer performs advanced technical and creative work essential to the University Libraries collections, services, and digital initiatives. Develop and implement digital library applications across multiple environments and operating platforms, including: tools for the integrated library system (ILS), digital collection repositories, library web content management, and collection management. The Developer manages technical projects and assures that deadlines are met and deliverables achieved. The Developer will contribute to project development paths and learn new skills as emerging projects require them. The Developer configures, supports and manages library systems that facilitate internal library workflows. The Developer also stays abreast of current and emerging technologies and determines appropriate ways to integrate these technologies into projects involving students and faculty.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develop and maintain backend systems which support the Library, Special Collections and the Archives, and the Gallery. These systems are crucial for digital file preservation, archival cataloging, secure file storage, digital exhibitions, and more. These include both on-premises Linux server hosted and cloud-hosted environments.

2. Create tools and workflows to automate and simplify tasks for other library staff. This involves a degree of analyzing current workflows and leveraging custom scripts or other technologies.

3. Serves as administrator and primary developer of all Library websites, ensuring a functional and accessible experience for all users. This includes working with departments to design new web pages and templates as needed, maintaining and updating existing web content, auditing and testing content for usability and accessibility, and ensuring all other users have the tools to meet their goals.

4. Provide technical expertise and guidance as needed on a variety of new and existing Library projects.

5. Stays abreast of current and emerging technologies and determines appropriate ways to integrate these technologies into projects involving students and faculty.

Required Qualifications:

1-3 years experience: Work experience requirement may be met with a combination of: education beyond the bachelor’s degree, internships, practicums and professional work experience to include at least one year of web development experience including PHP, MySQL, HTML / CSS, Java

Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field

1-3 years experience installing and configuring LAMP applications

Strong written, listening and oral communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

Master's degree in technology-related field

Experience with integrated library systems

Apache, Solr, Lucene, Java, JSON; client and server side scripting

Familiarity with data formats including XSLT, EAD, MARC, UI frameworks such as Bootstrap

Experience with system administration

Working knowledge of software version control/code repository systems, preferably Git/Github

Demonstrated desire to learn new scripting languages, techniques, and technology tools

Knowledge of web archiving tools and best practices

Knowledge of semantic web tools and standards

Team leadership

Salary Grade:

AD180 - Administrative

Ability to lift 50 lbs, occasional off-schedule work and travel
