The Development Manager will work closely with the Vice President of Community Engagement to create a development plan that raises public awareness about key issues, facilitate donor fundraising, and generates revenue to support the strategic goals of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes. This role must have experience in seeking out and cultivating relationships that lead to increased organization funding.

Subscribes to and promotes Goodwill of the Finger Lakes mission, vision, and values. Functions as an active Community Engagement department team member to achieve organization and department goals.

Competencies needed to be successful in this job include creativity, verbal and written communications, time management, and high-level organization and presentation skills. Must possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 1. Oversee annual giving from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Develop and implement plans to acquire new and retain existing donors.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report bi-monthly on annual giving results.
  • Ensure that the organization is meeting and adhering to Guidestar status standards.
  • 2. Oversee donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Implement donor recognition and stewardship activities including appreciation efforts, thank you cards, thank-a-thons, etc.
  • Act as point of contact for fundraising, donations, and fundraising event inquiries.
  • Monitor giving initiatives via website, social media platforms and in-store promotions.
  • 3. Manage all Community Engagement Special Events
  • Assist with establishing special events goals and outcomes including securing sponsorships, auctions, raffles, and donations.
  • Oversee logistics and implementation of special events from conception to completion.
  • Work with vendors, sponsors, community partners and Goodwill Staff and Board of Directors to execute a successful event.
  • Work with Good Neighbor Program Director to coordinate volunteers and outline special events tasks.
  • Assist with day-to-day functions of the Community Engagement Department.
  • Represent the department and the organization in meetings and with donors as needed.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization by completing all other tasks as assigned.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor's degree in a related field or discipline is required. A minimum of five years of annual giving, fundraising and/or marketing experience is required. Experience as a development or marketing associate in a not-for-profit organization

is highly desirable or equivalent combination of education and experience.


COMPUTER SKILLS:

Must be highly proficient in database management, social media platforms and using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Additionally, experience effectively using Blackbaud Raisers Edge fund raising database is desired.


INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Requires strong written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals and professional journals. Write reports and business correspondence. Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, donors, clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to everyday business situations.


REASONING ABILITY:

Able to define problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret an extensive variety of information in various forms and deal with many abstract and concrete variables simultaneously.
