AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Woodhull Dental – General, Oral Surgery, Pediatric Dental and Orthodontics

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Dental Assistant reports to the Supervising Dental Assistant and the responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

• Assists the Dentist at all times and serve as liaison between Dentist and patient.
• Responsible for wearing professional attire while on duty and when conducting business on behalf of Woodhull.
• Utilizes appropriate protocols (identifiers) for greeting and seating patients in operatory.
• Assists the patients as needed to complete forms, medical history and entering data into EPIC.
• Performs four handed dentistry and suctioning for Dentist.
• Cleans stocks and maintains operatories, dental chair, filters, and all other systems after every patient.
• Follow established procedures in the disposal of sharps and hazardous waste and practice “Standard Precautions”, in accordance with the CDC and NYSDOH and Infection Control policies.
• Performs x-rays as directed by Dentists.
• Assists the dentists in pouring alginate impressions, logs and tracks outgoing and incoming lab cases.
• Schedules patient appointments and retrieve records as needed in EPIC.
• Pre-wash and check instruments for sharps and waste before they are sent for sterilization.

1. A four year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by a course of study consisting of at least 600 instructional hours at an approved school for Dental Assistants; or
2. A four year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by a course of study consisting of at least 300 instructional hours at an approved school for Dental Assistants plus six months full-time satisfactory experience as a Dental Assistant performing all of the following duties: taking, developing, and mounting dental radiographs, assisting dentist at chairside, sterilizing dental instrument using autoclave; or
3. A four year High School diploma or its educational equivalent plus one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a Dental Assistant performing the duties described in 2 above; or
4. A satisfactory combination of education and experience which is equivalent to 1, 2, or 3 above. However, all candidates must have at least a four year High School diploma or its educational equivalent.
Experience as a receptionist or clerk in a dentist's office is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.

A valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
