Cut and Sew Supervisor

Shenandoah Furniture, a division of Hooker Furnishings Corporation (NASDAQ: HOFT), is currently recruiting for a Cut/Sew Supervisor to work in our Valdese, NC plant. Hooker Furnishings Corporation, in its 98th year of business, is a designer, marketer, and importer of case goods (wooden and metal furniture), leather furniture, and fabric-upholstered furniture for the residential, hospitality, and contract markets.
Summary of Position
The Production Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day functioning of their department. This would include identifying, analyzing, and resolving opportunities in manufacturing methods and processes for safety, speed of delivery, quality, and material/labor costs in their department(s). Position will be based in Valdese, NC and will have responsibility for the Cutting and Sewing departments.
Job Duties Include:
- Coach team members in a positive manner demonstrating respect for each individual and a commitment to the mission of the Company.
- Train new hires in proper processes and procedures and ensure or reinforce those processes and procedures with experienced team members.
- Ensure that production schedules are being completed in a timely and customer focused manner.
- Track daily production progress, identify concerns and propose solutions.
- Become familiar with the operation of any machinery utilized in the department(s).
- Efficiently utilize the resources available (human and/or machinery) in order to reach the goals of the department(s).
- Plan for future needs of the department(s) based on the long term vision of Shenandoah Furniture.
- Follow-up and drive improvements where necessary to reach the goals of the department(s).
- Complete time and attendance reporting for assigned department(s).

- Must understand manufacturing systems and processes. Candidate will possess Furniture industry experience.
- Must demonstrate a sense of ownership for the department(s).
- Must seek to understand continuous improvement techniques in process flow, housekeeping and safety aspects.
- Must have ability to deal with people at a cross-functional level. Position requires ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form in order to communicate information and respond to inquiries from direct reports, managers and other team members.
- Knowledge of incentive pay preferred.

Shift: This is a full-time day shift position with a work schedule of Monday-Friday with some schedule variations as needed.
