Description of role:

Berkshire Food Co-op (“BFC”) Customer Service Supervisors aids the Customer Service Manager in the supervision of the day-to-day operations in the Customer Service department. They are the public face of the Co-op, providing friendly customer service while ensuring speedy production and overall guest satisfaction. They have a working knowledge of the Co-op’s Ownership Program, POS systems, cash handling, discount programs, and monthly round up for change. They collaborate with the Customer Service leadership team to ensure effective productivity, operations, and safety standards while upholding high morale. They work to achieve the collective goals of the organization and support and embrace the Ends, Vision, Culture and Values of the Co-op, and contribute to building a fun-loving, passionate, energetic team!

The perfect candidate has POS, cash handling, and supervisory experience. They have a passion for customer service, community, and food!

Responsibilities and Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • General customer service responsibilities: cashiering, bagging, cart retrieval, providing carryout service, answering customer questions about products or services, responding promptly to customer inquiries
  • Is always friendly, greets and acknowledges customers with a welcoming attitude
  • Guide and encourage team members to maximize their personal growth and development
  • Upholds a healthy, friendly, productive and safe work environment and moral; collaborate and work cooperatively with the Customer Service Leadership Team; actively practices allyship
  • Performs the daily opening and closing procedures for the front-end as assigned
  • Process sales transactions, accepts payments, calculate the cost of products or services
  • Counts and prepares cash drawers for daily usage; counts the final tally of registers and cross references register count to recorded count; seeks discrepancies in drawer totals and backtracks to find the origin of the discrepancy

Skills and Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • 2+ years of retail experience
  • Knowledge of point of sale (POS) systems
  • Cash handling skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multitasking environment with a professional and friendly attitude
  • Must love food, people, and community!
  • (Preferred) 1+ year of supervisory experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds independently or with assistance on an occasional to frequent basis
  • Ability to stand for long periods, up to 8 hours
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, crouch, walk, kneel, push, pull, and twist repeatedly
  • Ability to read small print
  • Ability to adapt to changes in temperature due to pushing and retrieving carts, and returning products to proper location
  • Ability to write notes, emails, and items of a similar nature on a computer, touch screen, or by hand
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to noise from machinery and general environment
  • Ability to use fine motor skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
