Job description

The School District of Whitefish Bay has an opening for a part-time (80%) 2nd shift custodial position. ​This position works throughout the full year (12 months) and is eligible for benefits. The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

ESTIMATED WORK HOURS:
Monday-Friday from 2:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. plus 30 minute unpaid lunch
OR
Monday-Friday from 3:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. plus 30 minute unpaid lunch

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Dust, mop, strip and wax floors, hallways and stairs.
-Vacuum and shampoo carpeting.
-Sweep, clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, showers and locker rooms, as required.
-Clean, dust and polish furniture and woodwork.
-Collect and properly dispose of all trash and recyclables.
-Move and deliver furniture, equipment, supplies and UPS packages, as required.
-Pick up and deliver interschool mail and all paper deliveries.
-Remove snow from entrances and adjacent areas, including the walkway from the sidewalk to the door entrance and apply granulated material (such as salt and sand) as required to these areas and spot salt/sand the parking lots.
-Perform minor maintenance to buildings and equipment.
-Lock and unlock buildings and classrooms.
-Load and unload supplies and materials.
-Basic understanding, operation and maintenance of boilers and heating systems.
-Police grounds adjacent to buildings including athletic and playground areas.
-Submit work orders to immediate supervisor for equipment and facilities needing repair or replacement.
-Perform preventative maintenance.
-Sweep debris from entrances and adjacent areas, including the walkways from the sidewalk to the door entrance.
-If assigned a Custodial Aide, plan and assign tasks for the aide(s) while working with them and report performance problems that have not been corrected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Ability to perform heavy manual tasks requiring considerable physical stamina.
-Working knowledge of cleaning materials and methods.
-Working knowledge of the operation and care of custodial and maintenance equipment.
-Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
-Ability to work with hand tools.
-Ability to establish and maintain effective public and co-worker relationships.
-Basic knowledge and understanding of the operations and maintenance of boilers and heating systems.
-High school and/or technical school graduation or equivalent.
-Candidate must possess the ability to plan and organize work schedule.
-One or more years experience within a custodial environment with a sound understanding of custodial services and equipment preferred.
-Successful candidate must pass a physical and background check and have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Since this position requires you to drive between district buildings, you must possess a valid driver’s license in order to perform these work duties. You need a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position. If the status of your driver’s license changes (such as restrictions, invalid, expiration, etc.), you must immediately notify the Director of Human Resources and Director of Buildings & Grounds.
