FULL YEAR - First and Second Shifts Available
Pay begins at $16.43 per hour. Will offer more for years of experience.
I. Qualifications
Custodians must be at least 18 years of age and, given the rigors of the job, in good physical health. Custodians must be able and willing to perform lifting and physical chores both inside and outside. Custodians must be able to read and write sufficiently to follow instructions, identify materials from their labels, understand directions for use and make written report when necessary. Custodians must be capable of doing light to medium physical labor, including the ability to move 75 pounds without injury or discomfort.
II. Employment Terms
Twelve month position, in most cases. Benefits outlined in ESP Negotiated Agreement.
III. Reporting Level
Custodians report on a daily basis to the Building Administrator. Overall supervision comes from the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and ultimately, from the Superintendent of Schools.
IV. Primary Job Functions
A. Mopping (wet and dry);
B. Sweeping;
C. Dusting;
D. Glass cleaning;
E. Trash removal;
F. Furniture moving and arranging;
G. Floor stripping, waxing and/or finishing;
H. Wall and furniture washing;
I. Bathroom cleaning;
J. Operation of required machinery, including: vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers and buffers, carpet shampoo machines, light power tools, etc.;
K. Grounds care, including trash removal, raking, and occasional lawn mowing in direct vicinity of the building;
L. Minor building repair, such as hanging pictures, oiling doors, repairing lock sets, tightening plumbing fixtures, etc.
M. Implementation of district cleaning standards;
N. Building security and lockup;
O. Filling-out work orders for building needs;
P. Proper mixing and use of cleaning chemicals;
Q. Awareness of and implementation of sound safety practices;
R. Snow shoveling, snow blowing and occasional snow plowing.
V. Other Important Responsibilities
A. Familiarity with district approved safety practices, especially in areas of bodily fluid clean up, lifting, eye protection, wearing appropriate protective clothing, etc.
B. Strict adherence to district policy and procedure regarding school climate, sexual harassment and appropriate behavior toward students and staff;
C. Present a clean, neat and orderly appearance;
D. Ability to work cooperatively in a team situation;
E. Availability to make occasional off-hour building checks;
F. Availability to respond to occasional emergencies;
G. Availability to respond to changes in schedule due to building events schedule.
VI. Evaluation
Custodial staff will be evaluated at least once annually. Evaluation will be based upon this job description and other relevant criteria.
