Part-time Culinary Assistant
Juice Plus+ Technical Training Center of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis
Job Summary
The Culinary Assistant helps the Culinary Director facilitate meaningful learning of culinary competencies to trainees ages 16 – 22 by developing and sometimes leading hands-on food preparation and sanitation classes in a commercial kitchen environment. They will supplement the Culinary Director in administering a Food Handler’s Permit Certification while working in the program.
The Culinary Assistant also helps manage the “Garden to Groceries” project, an advanced form of culinary arts training at the Technical Training Center. Keeping the students engaged in the “Garden to Groceries” project; helping with any culinary catering events throughout the summer; and preparing, cooking, and administering Summer Lunches that are provided through the Technical Training Center for their participants are all job duties to be performed by the Culinary Assistant.
The Culinary Assistant will help the Culinary Director in overseeing aspects of the classroom, lunches, the greenhouse, inventory, and our outdoor tower gardens.

Requirements:

Pass background check
Professional training in the culinary field
Preferences:
Education: American Culinary Federation Certification
Experience: Teaching experience in postsecondary education, culinary-related experience of at least 2+ years
Certifications: ServSafe Food Protection Manager, or ServSafe Food Handler

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
High energy level, comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Superior interpersonal abilities. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, at all times displaying tact, maturity and flexibility. Must have good reasoning abilities and sound judgment. Physical requirements include sight, hearing, sitting for four plus hours per day. Must be physically able to travel by air, car, train, or other modes of transportation. Skills essential for successful communications include speaking and writing.
- Event set-up and tear-down as needed, moderate lifting and long days as required by events
- Office-oriented work, off-site meetings with donors and site tours of Clubs
