Position Overview

Full performance level in accounting clerk occupation under general direction, review and audit child and spousal support cases/orders; maintain accuracy of case dates, amounts, time frames, and payments; ensure funds flow to appropriate person or entity in timely manner; monitor placement of orders/balances in systems within certain timelines utilizing accounting principles of agency/state/courts thereby representing financial integrity. Perform material and substantial duties of classification more than 50% of the time.

Summary of Job Duties

Interpret complex orders and analyze pay histories to set account details in systems – may include welfare audits, unreimbursed public assistance account details, criminal non support, proof of claim for bankruptcies, previous assigned child and spousal support arrears, other states' orders, etc.; troubleshoot problems with Columbus PAAR(Payment Analysis & Account Reconciliation Bureau); trace funds previously misapplied and establish corrections; maintain timely money disbursements to appropriate receivers as ordered which may mean contact with multiple legal and/or other persons.
Gather and compile information for various financial/legal reports; maintain financial management portion of agency system; incorporate welfare pay history and other states pay history in systems; prepare documents to correct misapplied payments and respond to questions concerning current/past history for specific cases; ensure accounts and disbursements are maintained timely; monitor emancipation activities.
Attend court hearings as required to explain pay history questions to judge, magistrates, attorneys or customers; help others respond to walk-in customers with detailed explanation of case history and/or legal orders; perform other clerical functions; answer telephone inquiries; sort and disperse mail to appropriate cases.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

High school diploma equivalency and 2 yrs. experience maintaining complex financial records and/or bookkeeping utilizing computerized accounting/financial systems – OR – alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements. (Other Evidences May Be Substituted)

Part-time Employees (Non-Benefits Eligible) (20 hours or less per week): Benefits include Long Term Sick Leave Accrual, Paid Personal Leave, and holiday pay for hours scheduled to work on holidays.

Seasonal Employees: Benefits include Sick Leave accrued at 4.6 hours for every eighty 80 hours in active
pay status. Seasonal employees scheduled to work 40 hours during their period of employment will accrue vacation in the same manner as regular full-time employees and can use their vacation after completion of twenty-six (26) bi-weekly pay periods in active pay status. Part-time Seasonal employees (scheduled to work less than 40 hours) do not accrue vacation.

Intermittent and Temporary Employees: Long-Term Sick Leave accrual is based on hours worked.
