1. Position Summary:
The Credit Officer is responsible for the loan underwriting and risk assessment of commercial, commercial real estate, and construction-related lending transactions, as well as assisting the Chief Lending Officer in the formulation of underwriting policies and procedures. The Credit Officer underwrites all new commercial loans of $100,000.00 and above and all new commercial real estate loans of $250,000.00 and more; and is also responsible for the initial risk rating assignment for all loans, as well as the continual reassessment of these risk assignments. The reporting of the results of these reviews is done via regularly scheduled reports to the board. These reports include, but not limited to: watch list activity, concentration of credits, customer exposure report (grade tracking), as well as loan loss reserve calculation.
2. Primary Responsibilities:
· Performs financial analysis and loan underwriting using financial statements and tax returns to perform traditional and UCA and cash flow analysis. Calculates profitability and asset utilization ratios to compare with peer companies. Analyzes the accounts receivable data from companies that are required to provide that data in connection with a loan that they have with the bank.
· Produces a narrative report that explains the above ratios and their impact on the credit worthiness of the borrower.
· Analyzes the impact of national and local economic conditions and trends on the bank’s customers.
· Calculates personal debt ratios from tax returns, financial statements and/or loan applications.
· Responsible for the direct supervision of the Credit Department.
· Provides support to the Chief Lending Officer, providing input for loan policies, rewriting loan policies, interacting with the bank examiners and accounting firm, and discussing loans or the reserve calculation with this firm.
· Performs post-funding underwriting reassessment on selected borrowers in accordance with loan policy.
· Performs regular and continual risk assessments of all lending relationships with aggregate exposure greater than $250K.
· Reports to the board the balance of all relationships on the bank’s watch list monthly and the progress of the workout plans quarterly.
· Reports to the board on a monthly basis the past-due loan accounts of the bank.
· Calculates the required level of loan loss reserves.
· Tracks and reports the results of accounts receivable and inventory aging reports from those loans that require tracking.
· Prepares various reports to be utilized by Finance for the Call Reports.
3. Additional Responsibilities:
- Additional responsibilities will be assigned by the Chief Lending Officer, but will at a minimum include the assisting of the chief lender in establishing underwriting policies and procedures.
- Develops and trains the necessary employees as needed to perform the task above.
4. Education, Experience and Skills:
· A minimum of three years in a commercial lending and underwriting.
- A business-oriented Bachelor’s degree or equivalent banking industry experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Supervisory experience a plus!
