Summary of Position

A thoughtful and humble individual who has the capacity to copy edit written communications with precision and to write with clarity. Assists the Creative Team and The Summit Church with its written content, primarily by editing all written content for the church.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Personal integrity and evidence of ongoing spiritual growth, as required of all church employees

• Proficiency in writing and editing, specifically copyediting

• Familiarity with the public communication and teaching of The Summit Church

• A member of The Summit Church or willing and able to become a member

• Fluency in Spanish preferred (Given the right individual, this role may encompass both English copyediting and translation into Spanish for Summit en Español.)

Responsibilities

Copy edit

• Copyedit all written communication produced by The Summit Church to align with our Style Guide, including (but not limited to):

  • Print and digital pieces representative of The Summit Church—small group curriculum, video scripts, weekend slides, promotional content, stories, sermon manuscripts, etc.

  • Print and digital pieces coming from the office and ministry of J.D. Greear—blog articles, book chapters, etc.

Provide writing and content editing, as requested, for use at The Summit Church.

• This may include:

  • Assisting the Editor with ad hoc copywriting projects.

  • Performing monthly audits of all Summit communication, assessing both clarity and effectiveness.

  • Providing logistical support for the management of J.D. Greear’s blog.

Participate in all-team activities within the Creative Team and The Summit Church.

• In addition to providing copy editing and content editing, the copy editor will be expected to contribute to the broader Creative Team (by attending team meetings and brainstorming sessions) and to The Summit Church (by attending All-Staff meetings and other requisite staff functions).
