Overview
MercyOne Central Iowa operates four not-for-profit Catholic medical centers in Des Moines West Des Moines Newton and Centerville and two specialty hospitals – MercyOne Children’s Hospital in Des Moines and MercyOne Rehabilitation Hospital in Clive (965 beds total) – along with more than 20 additional facilities that house more than 50 primary care pediatric internal medicine and specialty clinics. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1893 MercyOne Central Iowa has the longest continually operating hospital in Des Moines and is also one of the largest employers in the state with more than 7000 employees and a medical staff of more than 1000 physicians and allied health associates. Responsibilities
Prepare and cook a variety of hot and cold foods with quality in taste and visual appeal. Participate in the planning, requisitioning, handling, storing and serving processes. Maintain a clean, sanitary work area and practice food safety regulations.
What You'll Do:
- Prepares display cooking in retail service station.
- Preps and prepares daily menu items.
- Efficiently requisitions, inspects, prepares, cooks, cools and portions large and small quantities of meats, vegetables, cereals, soups, fruits and other forms of food in accordance with quality standards, quantity demands and standardized recipes.
- Recommends recipes, menus and changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve quality of food; forecast specific quantities of menu items to be produced; maintains necessary food production records.
- Forecasts production and utilizes leftovers to maintain efficient waste control program.
- Keeps abreast of new trends and methods of food preparation in the food service and catering industry.
- Processes food for storage and cooling following regulatory codes.
- Labels and dates items as required.
- Maintains organized, clean production area, equipment, utensils and tools.
- Cleans work area, including but not limited to, ovens, stove, grill, and tables.
- Lifts trays and pans of food from ovens, steamers, and other equipment.
- Pushes food carts, racks, dollies, and cambros.
- Monitors refrigerator and freezer temperatures internally and externally.
- Inspects integrity of food products prior to use.
- Contributes to a smooth, non-stop customer service operation providing high quality food services to ensure the needs of the customer are met.
- Demonstrates appropriate sanitation and safe food handling procedures for food preparation, services, delivery and storage.
- Knowledgeable and practices food safety codes and governing standards; federal, state, local, and accreditation agencies.
- Uses standardized and non-standardized recipes and ingredients to prepare, create, and process foods.
- Checks and records temperature of food as required. Covers, labels and dates food items and leftovers for storage.
- Documents refrigerator/freezer temperatures as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two year’s experience in restaurant or food service required.
- Culinary education, experience or training is preferred.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
