Safety Plus, Inc. is seeking qualified individuals for Contract Safety Coordinator positions on behalf of a client. This position requires detail oriented professionals capable of identifying and acting on risk and exposures identified through the work areas. This is a contract position, paid by the hour and totaling 40 hours per week, overtime as needed at time and a half. This position starts in early August.

Safety Plus is located on the beautiful Gulf Coast in Mobile, AL. We offer a wide range of safety services including program management, training, auditing, industrial hygiene monitoring, safety management software, contractor management software, and more. We also staff safety professionals on projects nation-wide. In this case, our client is in need of Safety Coordinators working full time at their steel mill during an expansion and new equipment installation project, and will require safety assistance at least through November. Job Description

The Safety Coordinator position has been created to assist our client during area expansion and equipment installation in an environment currently in operation. The position requires a detail oriented professional capable of identifying and acting on risk and exposures identified through the work areas. The individuals selected for the position will assist with day-to-day responsibilities. Must be hard-working, emotionally intelligent, able to communicate effectively, and available to work when required. Accurate and timely communication of issues to the company and its client is critical.

Qualifications

• 5 years or more years of experience in general Industry and or construction safety – Steel mill experience preferred.
• Experience in identifying and working with management to mitigate identified risk and exposure in the work environment.
• Willingness to work extended hours if needed which will involve walking & standing
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Comfortable working with supervision to implement corrective actions
• Capable of professionally and accurately conducting site safety audits and reporting findings to management.
• Ability to interpret & communicate information to a wide audience verbally and through computer reporting processes.

Responsibilities

• Review and sign permits including hot work, aerial lift, confined space, and acid work entering hazard reports into a co. system, and incident reporting and following up on IR’s. Morning safety meetings
• Daily audits including LOTO and updating area owners of issues
• Inspecting (PPE, equipment)
• PPT reports with findings to area supervisors
• Basic computer skills for entering audit reports onto the company web site.
• Creating and maintaining a safe work environment for employees
• Incident reporting and follow ups on IRs
• Monitoring PPE usage compliance
• Working with supervision and employees to address safety concerns
